Hi
Our 12 year old boiler is kaput. We have had to have it fixed twice in 4 years, not too bad I'm thinking considering how much we use it. However, we had a good plumber out yesterday and he took it apart and sorted it... (bill £60)
However, heating and water stopped again last night at 8.
We have contacted him again and he'll be over this afternoon...he did say to me yesterday that as the boiler was getting on we might like to think about a new one. Especially since he now thinks it may be the fan which will be £200 to buy and fix.
He has said a new boiler adn installation (and removal) would be £1800 does this sound right.
Thanks all
PS brrrrr!

Depends on the boiler he is replacing with and what other things he'll do (TRV's, powerflush etc). If you're seriousl onsidering replacement, its best to get a few quotes.
I had a Worcester Bosch 30CDi done for £2,200 (inc VAT). No extra rads, just new TRV's and powerflush.0 -

When British Gas started to baulk at actually doing any real work on our boiler when it went wrong, rather than just taking the annual fee for a contract from us, they decided they "could not guarantee availability of parts" (they took our money for years without telling me). Their opening quote for a new boiler was .... wait for it ..........
£4050
Really.
So i guess the price you are looking at is a bargain in comparison.Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.0 -

Our boiler is similarly ancient but still works with a little TLC every now and then. We also have the BG Homecare (or whatever it's called). What cracks me up is every time we need a new part it's always "the last one in the country" and has to couriered specially from a secret warehouse in darkest Hertfordshire. This is inevitably followed by pleading to allow BG to quote for a new boiler.0
