Debt Collectors still charging for a cancelled PPC Charge???

It's me again...
Parking charge has been cancelled by PPC, and I have a letter to prove this.
The debt collections agency that were involved by the PPC, are still trying to charge me for a 'debt' which I now don't have???! I have written to them (as mentioned in the thread "Disabled Bay Insult"), but they say they've had no correspondence from me.
Their letter is very threatening, and they have said they might sent a person round to my house to get the money. I thought this was illegal without a court ruling? The rest of the letter contains every threat you might imagine from a low life company such as this (they like red too!).
I think that the contents of this letter now amounts to harassment, so should I go to the police?
Any help would be grand, thanks!

Correct - without a court ruling, they can't take anything. I'd write them a letter, stating that if you recieve any further correspondance from them, you will be going to the police, reporting them of trying to take money by menace and send it by recorded delivery. If you then recieve anything else from them, then take all evidence to the police...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

You could try, but it's likely they'd just shrug their shoulders and say "it's a civil matter". Now if they thought you drove at 35mph in a 30 limit to get to the police station, the full force of the law and the courts would swing into action against you.Little_RAY wrote: »I think that the contents of this letter now amounts to harassment, so should I go to the police?
I would just photocopy the letter you got cancelling the charge, send it to the dca with a letter saying you will report them to trading standards if they contact you again.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -
Thanks Bargepole and Mwilletts.
I have sent a letter off to the DCA today via recorded delivery with a copy of the letter that the PPC sent to me.
Out of interest, the DCA's letter arrived exactly seven days after the date noted on the letter (Saturday post!).... they only gave me seven days to reply from this date! Do I get the feeling that they want to make an excuse to charge me more???
Nothing surprises me any more! When dreams take flight, follow them... :A
