hi spendless the lumpy jars still say 7 months plus, the smooth jars still say 4 months, or 4-6 months. you're advised not to give gluten before 6m but i've seen biscuits for 4m, the jar companies don't seem to follow the latest guidelines, and neither do the health visitors i don't think. most mums i've met are weaning at 4 months or younger so i don't know any other late weaners to compare speech development with. i also think that early teething might delay speech, if they want a dummy a lot or suck on toys/teethers etc. so i blame roo having teeth - i'm full of excuses for his speech delay lol! i don't know if speech delay is important, my eldest was nearly 4 before he talked and within a year or so he was no different to other children, but it affected socialisation when he wasn't talking. i think it's too early to worry about roo's speech, but the health visitor thinks not.

I'd say the longer you leave it before they're able to answer back the better:p . Just kidding ;) . Is your older one talking on behalf of the baby? That happened with my SIL hubby 21 months older did her speaking and she only leaned to talk when he went to school. They were only a school year apart due to when their birthdays fall so I think I'd have been flapping. I've read about weaning now at 6 months on here but sounds like there's some confusion if not all HV are saying same thing and the jars labels haven't been changed.

totally off topic but DS was 6 this weekend and DD has come out of daytime nappies and been dry at night for past 3 days, so 6 years practically to the day since I first started buying nappies i've now stopped :money: . Hurray- just needed to share the info:D

wahey, nappy free days! when are you having another one? :D

the eldest probably does talk for him but he's at school all day, perhaps i talk too much though.

the bounty mag and the baby mags all say wean at six months and that even holding off an extra week if you're thinking about weaning under 6 months can limit the damage you do to your baby. to read the mags you'd think that early weaning is as bad as being a smoker. they also say never use rusks (too sugary) - how mean is that? :rotfl:

LOL don't!!! The day DS came out of daytime nappies was the day I found out I was pregnant with DD. He was in night-time ones for a further 15 months, which is why I've never been totally nappy free till now.

What about the sugar free rusks are they okay:confused:
