I got my electricity bill yest, £660 for 3 months (Nov to Feb 09) ? I pay £110 per month on DD, and £42 on the Gas, also with the same supplier. I've been complaining something can't be right here for around 3 to 4 years. I am a normal 3 bed semi, 4 people (17 - 42) all new white goods over 2 years, energy saving everything and still I can not get my bills down, I would say we are fairly high users as I do use the cooker/oven everyday, the tumbler has been on a lot as its been pretty wet and the boys do use their x box and lappys a fair bit but even so they are so high, again. Spoken to so many people who say something is so so wrong here but can't get any sense out of Southern Electric other than thats what you need to pay as you've used it. What would be your next move, the CAB ?

I dunno, I used to pay £65 a month by DD for electric and gas, till the last bill came in at well over £400 for 3 months - now DD is £125 a month!!!0

have you tried monitoring your usage daily to get an idea what you are using and base that figure on the period of time your bill was for compare the 2. i use around 17 a day at most with a load of washing dishwasher. 2 computers on nearly all day xbox and an electric oven which gets used every other day. Don't think my bill was even half that. try that first then you have some facts and figures to work with.0

Thanks already for your replies. Yes, that what i thought too, monitor it for a week but check it daily to see what the usage is. According to the bill we are using £55 per week at that rate and it was a read bill not an estimate.
I actually said yest to SE was it possible the meter was faulty, she said they would send someone out but if the meter isn't faulty then I would be charged another £75 on top for their trouble.0 -

Our family sounds similar to your, but there are six of us. Before I got a grip, we were using 20-26khw elec a day. By being less wasteful, we now average 13kwh a day summer and 16kwh a day winter.0

Nope, the £660 was for the electric alone, no gas involved there!
I've just got out my previous bills (last time the bill was read) as we get one read bill every 6 months, but an estimate in between and since Aug 14th 08 til 24th Feb 09 (191 days) I have used apparently 9032 units, I've worked that out to 47 units per day, ??0 -
Sounds an awful lot to me. We are 4 people in a typical 3 bed semi. All the electronics on all hours. Gas cooker, rarely use tumble drier. Electric shower probably accounts for the biggest chunk of our 9 kw a day. Even with the cooker and tumble drier added it seems high.
I'd start by unplugging anything you don't absolutely need. Dry stuff on a clothes maiden or radiator. Limit electric shower use, my kids would stay in for 20-30 mins everyday. I told them how much it cost and they now have 10 mins 4 times a week and I told them I'd take the rest out of their pocket money.
Check your meter regularly. Might be worth investing in an Owl or similar to help you check consumption and compare with meter reading. If your consumption still seems too high, then you could ask again to have your meter checked.0 -
Hiya,
What's an owl ?not heard of that before ! Showers are really short ones and the boys seem allergic to water :rotfl:
I have baths at this time of the year unless I'm in a rush. The showers is on on average 10-13 times a week at about 5 to 10 mins a time but I would try anything right now to show them they have my bill wrong. I do actually dry heavy stuff/T shirts on hangers in the airing cupboard as that's always warm in there.0 -
