Hi, I've decided to use this as a record of my journey to becoming debt free, so here goes...
After looking at my SOA I've decided to give up smoking so as of today I'm wearing a patch and will get an appt for the stop smoking clinic asap. £140 a month is a lot of money and I wanna be healthy for myself and of course my kids, wish me luck!!!
Every monday I plan to transfer my smoking money to one of my debts, starting with my Capital One credit card, then my Next catalogue and then my HLC loans, so fingers crossed as long as I stay given up they should be paid off a lot quicker.
Have got enough food and gas and electric for the week so I don't need to spend any money. I am starting this week with £20 in my purse and I will not withdraw anymore!!! My sister is travelling over for the day today though and wants to go shopping for her OHs birthday pressie so I figure this is the perfect day to start.
I've realised that on my SOA I seriously under quoted my silly outgoings, £5 a week on mags, normal big shop and then prob another £15 to £20 a day on odds and sods so now I'm finally out of denial I plan to be debt free by...31st March 2010.
Wish me luck and if you have any hints or tips please feel free to pass them on...any advice will be gratefully received...as well as any support...thanks to everyone who's made suggestions already and thanks for giving me the confidence to deal with my debts head on.PAD total since 27/07/09 = £60.83 - [strike]Capital One[/strike]:[strike] £192.73[/strike]£27.00 Next catalogue: [strike]£429.00[/strike] £154.00Welcome car HP: [strike]£6090[/strike], £3900, Welcome Loan:[strike]£3370[/strike], £2660HLC #1: [strike]£907.00[/strike]£637.00, HLC #2:[strike] £838.00[/strike]£608.00Sealed Pot Challenge 2009 - Member #649 - Target £500...banked £119.50 already.0 -
Yay...I haven't smoked all day..I will will will do it this time...just thinking about being healthy and debt free seems to be working well so far, I suppose I'm still in the 'honeymoon period' lol, so we'll see.
Had a good day money wise, went shopping with my sister and was surprised at how I felt when I saw nice new shiny things. I felt like I had to have them before someone else did...strange, I don't think I realised how buying new stuff made me feel before today.
I did buy lunch but knew I would. I spent £6.19 on a burger and drink in Wetherspoons, normally we would go to Ask but I insisted on a cheaper alternative and it was lovely. The money came out of my weekly spend budget of £20 and I'm hoping to have the remaining amount in my purse at the end of the week, minus the change which has already gone in my sealed jar lol.
I spent this afternoon listing more stuff on e-bay and de-staining other stuff so I'm hoping to earn enough to pay off some money on my cc...fingers crossed.
Hopefully tomorrow goes well.PAD total since 27/07/09 = £60.83 - [strike]Capital One[/strike]:[strike] £192.73[/strike]£27.00 Next catalogue: [strike]£429.00[/strike] £154.00Welcome car HP: [strike]£6090[/strike], £3900, Welcome Loan:[strike]£3370[/strike], £2660HLC #1: [strike]£907.00[/strike]£637.00, HLC #2:[strike] £838.00[/strike]£608.00Sealed Pot Challenge 2009 - Member #649 - Target £500...banked £119.50 already.0 -
Excellent stuff!! Well done on giving up smoking as well. You certainly seem to be really 'going for it'.0

Thanks, yes I am...I really want to clear my debts. The smoking thing was obvious really but we'll see.
I'm sure I will soon lose my 'mojo' but as long as I'm feeling motivated I'm gonna make the most of it!!

Having a good start to the day, checked my acc online this morning and tax credits had paid in £260.00 back paid childcare. Normally I'd see this as an excuse to go and refresh the kids wardrobe or waste it on rubbish but today I've spent the morning paying stuff!!
£112.00 on the rest of this years council tax (I moved in January so I had to make two payments for one quarter).
£57.00 on the remainder of my previous house council tax.
£45.00 each on my 2 home learning college loans.
£65.00 on my old house water bill.
A total of £324.00 paid off my debts for today...YAY!!!
(I had some money in my acc left from yesterdays tax credits).
I've also called my water supplier and they are sending me the form to sign for a water meter.
Anyhoo, off to Sainsburys now to buy some bread (just bread lol)...PAD total since 27/07/09 = £60.83 - [strike]Capital One[/strike]:[strike] £192.73[/strike]£27.00 Next catalogue: [strike]£429.00[/strike] £154.00Welcome car HP: [strike]£6090[/strike], £3900, Welcome Loan:[strike]£3370[/strike], £2660HLC #1: [strike]£907.00[/strike]£637.00, HLC #2:[strike] £838.00[/strike]£608.00Sealed Pot Challenge 2009 - Member #649 - Target £500...banked £119.50 already.0 -
Still not smoking although struggling to get an appt at the stop smoking clinic and as I was hoping to get patches on prescription this may affect the money saving side of giving up but I'm feeling really proud of myself so will keep going either way.
I've been trying to keep myself busy by spending most evenings putting stuff on e-bay, most of it ends Sunday evening but I have bids on 7 items so far and I've sold a perfume for £12.99 on BIN so it's going well so far...fingers crossed.
I'm a little bit disappointed today, my wages should have gone in for this month but have not yet appeared. I transfer them myself at work so know it was done, will just have to wait and see for tomorrow.
Because I had my bonus tax credit payment yesterday I'd planned to use some of my wages to double a payment on some money I owe Avon from 5 years ago, it will be my last payment, so woke up really excited, guess it will have to wait until tomorrow now!!!
Bad news: My puppy Elmo ( I call him a puppy but he's a 7 month old mastiff so is the size of a horse!!!) has had a lump on his leg for 2 weeks, I have been putting cream on it from the pet shop but the lumps still growing and looking really sore bless him so I'll have to take him to the vets on Saturday, just hope it's nothing serious.
Good news: Home learning college told me yesterday that if I settle my 2 loans at any point I'll get a 20% settlement figure. Was planning to just throw all of my stop smoking money at them once I'd paid off cap 1 and Next but will just save it until I have enough to clear it off in one go. £3.33 change in the jar today.
My friends all think I've gone mental, I've got random jars sealed with selotape all over the house and have started picking up pennys I find in the street lol...every little helps!!!!PAD total since 27/07/09 = £60.83 - [strike]Capital One[/strike]:[strike] £192.73[/strike]£27.00 Next catalogue: [strike]£429.00[/strike] £154.00Welcome car HP: [strike]£6090[/strike], £3900, Welcome Loan:[strike]£3370[/strike], £2660HLC #1: [strike]£907.00[/strike]£637.00, HLC #2:[strike] £838.00[/strike]£608.00Sealed Pot Challenge 2009 - Member #649 - Target £500...banked £119.50 already.0 -
Its great to see that you are throwing yourself into this, and you seem to be having lots of small 'wins'. That's the way to go!
As you said, you probably will lose your mojo at somepoint. The important thing is not to give up! If you need a kick up the *&^^%$%, well you know where we all are!!0 -
Hiya! You sound like you are really going well! Well done for sorting out the smoking thing, that should make a huge difference to your budget and the rest of your life!
Aw your poor dog, hope he is going to be ok xxThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0 -
Hi, thanks for your replies, was starting to feel like a bit of a nutter chatting to myself, ha ha. That said, it's definately helping me having a record of what I'm doing.
Managed to get an appt yesterday cos they had a cancellation so I'm now on prescribed patches.
The nurse asked if I'd like to go back weekly or fortnightly. I decided on weekly for that added incentive. I have given up twice before but both times started again after a week so until I get past that point I wont feel like I'm really getting anywhere.
Have been paid today so am waiting until 9:00 to call Avon and pay my acc off.
Once that's done I'll be £60 better off a month towards my other debts. Yay!!
I've been thinking a lot about what I used to do with my money...I used to have a can of red bull a day, let alone all the other bits and bobs. If there was money in my acc it came out and was spent on crap. No planning for the next weeks bills. Just lots of scrimping and saving to meet them for the couple of days before.
I also owe my dad around £3000. I'm guessing it's that much but it's always been in dribs and drabs to help me out. He's very good and has never asked for it back but I feel so guilty now. Once I've paid off my interest debts I will pay him back with a standing order weekly. I'm lucky in that he's want me to pay back any other stuff first but know he'll be very surprised when I do get to that point.
How sad am I...we ran out of fruit yesterday so I walked over to Sainsburys to get some, got some kiwi, apples and bananas (all economy and no complaints from the kids so far) anyway got to the til and my 99p eco apples wouldn't scan. Supervisor came over and put them through for 20p just as I was about to say they were 99p. Kept my mouth shut and you'd think I'd got 6 lines on the lotto the way I felt after, ha ha.
