London to Edinburgh..anyone bagged cheap rail/flights ?

Sorry if this is covered anywhere else on the site, wondered if any info on how to bag the supposed mega cheap deals on travel(return) if booking a few weeks in advance, quite flexible but would probably travel friday and return sunday etc, but weekdays could be a possibility. Thanks in advance.

My advice if you want any chance of a cheap rail ticket on Friday and Sunday. Book as soon as the cheap seats are released. You can buy on Eastcoast for upto 31 May. So it's possible to travel on 29 and 31 May for £33 return. Already the prices for the previous weekend are twice this unless you leave London at 6.15am. The second is to travel on Friday morning rather than afternoon. The nationalexpresseastcoast site is the best place to find out about fares. It's also usually the best place to book, but trainline via travelsupermarket currently offers £5 off. See the info elsewhere on this site.

Another way is split tickets up the West coast, try

London Euston - Birmingham NS - Edinburgh or

London Euston - Manchester Pic - Edinburgh

Again as apt says you need to buy very early for this one as its a very popular route for the weekends

London Euston - Manchester Pic - Edinburgh get the 'London to Manchester' tickets from Mobitix (but can't travel Sunday and need a compatible mobile phone)

As these tickets are dirty cheap
