Beware at Little Chef

Ok well we had a teeny meal - bad value for money. Cooked tomatoes were raw as was egg etc. Asked if meal was okay when said it wasnt she just left. When pursued we were told we should have mentioned it before eating. Well how can we tell what its like if we dont try it. We certainly didnt eat even most of it. My stomach turns at the thought of ever entering that place ever again.

I think little chef food and service is ok. And now the prices have come down, which they have , even better. Bear in mind that they are always roadside and cater for people who are travelling and wish to stop somewhere with a bit of consistency.

I feel that now the prices have come down they should do a lot better. not much more expensive than mcd`s and more consistant

And it does say on the menu about refills

Last time it was terrible! worst trip ever! cr*p food, terrible service. It seems since it was took over the quality has took a nose dive. The hot chocolate was hot water so consequently wrote to little chef and recieved a cheque refund! would never go to one again, their new menu is pants

ha ha - this really made me chuckle....

We got BANNED from all Little Chefs 2 years ago for daring to complain about the quality of the food!!!! And were chased from the 'restaurant' by the manager... :eek:

We contacted the head office - who were terribly apologetic, refunded us in full, plus another £40 vouchers on top - they also revoked our ban.

Have to say we went into one for the first time, since our ban was lifted end of Jan, and was really good. A34 southbound towards Oxford. Food was well cooked - adult soft drinks were in LARGE glasses and with refill if wanted...

I would strongly recommend you take up with LC head office.

My mother-in-law has a Little Chef story:

One day she visits the Little Chef and orders an omelette. Waitress disappears and comes back five minute later and says "Sorry, we've run out of omelettes." Mother-in-law looks askance and replies "Surely you mean you've run out of eggs?". "No", comes the response, "We've got loads of eggs, but no omelettes."

At which point mother-in-law sees the futility of proceeding and orders something else.

My solution to terrible food and service at Little Chef? I got a copy of the Good Pub Guide. There are loads of places just off the main roads, you end up paying similar prices to Little Chef (maybe a pound or 2 more) and can get a great meal with great service. I have been to some lovely towns and villages I never would have known even existed as a result.

That's a good idea, similar to don't buy your fuel from motorway service stations if you can help it.

I tried a Little Chef for the first and last time last year. We had a 2 for 1 voucher and ordered 2 fish, chip and peas meals - they looked great on the menu card. It was truly awful. The fish, if you could call it that, was so thin, with overcooked batter almost burnt to a frazzle, and looked as if it had been deep fried again to warm it up before being served. The rest of the food was not much cop either. I complained and we paid a reduced amount. Never again.

I recently received an email from Little Chef about their website changing and a back-log of emails to respond to.

The final sentence was:

Please bare with us and we will respond to each and every email individually.

No thanks, I'm keeping my clothes on.:p
