For all you PC upgraders out there.
If you need to upgrade your RAM now is the time to do it.
Historically the prices of memory have never been so low
check out http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.asp
I paid over £110 for 512mb of memory around 2 years ago as of 6 weeks a ago I paid £59 now it is less than £50 for 512mb PC3200 (DDR 400)
The price of memory is very much a result of supply and demand obviously the chip makers and consequently PC manufactureres are having a poor run up to Christmas and are being forced to move stock cheap.
So if you need to give your PC a xmas present buy it some RAM while it is cheap
Crucial are a manufacturer of memory and there stuff has always been good comes with lifetime warranty even replaced a malfunctioning stick of memory of mine that was over 3 years old no questions asked.

Just to add that I've used them many times and can heartily recommend them. Always received my orders next day - but as they use Royal Mail Special Delivery it may take a few days at this time of year.
I can also see their UK facility from my house.

Good price, make sure you check your motherboard instruction, to see what memory you need and the maximum amount allowed. Also make sure you have free slots if not replacing the memory. :P0

probably the best company i have ever bought from.
i had a defective 9700pro video card, over 12months old, and it stipulates video cards only have 12 months warranty.
However, they exchanged it, for a 9800pro.
Just an email to them asking for an rma no.
Fabulous company.
special delivery as well, means its here next day before 1pm.
Memory has a lifetime guarantee too.0 -
Umm - just thought I'd point out that although memory is coming down in price (Like it should) - I don't think it's at an all time low...
I think that the all-time-low is still around 2.5 years ago - when I bought 512MB RAM from crucial for about £20-£25 a pop. This wasn't a special - everyone was selling for this - apparently there was a massive glut of chips due to over-production. NO - these weren't PC3200 - but the standard memory back then...
So maybe this is the start of another phase of overproduction - and we'll see the prices dropping. (The memory market usually works like this - but the price trebling a few years ago were the first I've seen!).0 -

The crucial site has a facility to examine your motherboard and current memory to produce a list of upgrades that are guaranteed to work.
Identified my motherboard and existing memory configuration a treat on my self built machine.0 -

I also don't think that this is by any means as cheap as it'll get. It's still a bit more expensive than it was in January; prices always seem to fall after Christmas. Also, Isuppli are predicting a very rough couple of years for the DRAM market. Sales of PCs were strong this year but they're not predicted to be strong next year or in 2006.
If you need more RAM urgently, then £50 isn't a great deal to pay, but I wouldn't upgrade now just for the hell of it.

special delivery is guaranteed next working day by 1pm and insures items for £250
I think you may mean they use recorded delivery - this takes the same time as standard post but requires a signiture (only insured for 100 times cost of stamp)
not being pedantic :P just clarifying for people ::)0
