I signed up to a gym membership a while ago, was told it was 3 month contract and Since the three months has been up, I have recieved debt letters saying that my payments for a 12 month contract have not been paid. I have tried to get a copy of my contract from the gym, but they say they can not find me on their system!!
What can be done?

Did you cancel the contract once the 3 months were up? I would imagine that it was a 3 month trial period which then went on to 12 months if you did not cancel.
However, as they cannot find you on their system I don't see how they can expect you to pay!
I would write to them setting out when you entered into the contract and when you considered that it had expired. State that you have not used the gym since then and state that you wont be making any further payments. I would have thought that they would accept this but if not insist that they provide you with a copy of the contract you signed to check what you agreed to.Wedding 5th September 20150 -
If I am right in the name of the gym they have been on Watchdog etc. They had amended peoples original 3 months contracts to a 12 month contract after signing them!!!
Shame you haven't got your copy.
Write a letter to their head office saying you haven't been since and your account.
They are putting a blot on your credit file!0 -
I agree with BlueAngelCV - if they can't find you on the system, how can you possibly owe them money? If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

The sales rep told me that it was only a month contract, if I wanted a 12 month after that I would have to sign a new contract, I said to them at the end of my three months I no longer wanted to continue and this all seemed fine till I got letters from a debt company.
It would seem the gym can not find me on their system but the debt company can, I dont think I should have to pay for something I have not had.
Nigella, I didnt see anything on watchdog, but then I have not watched it, im not sure if we are allowed to name the company on here but it does start with an F if thats helps!!2012 Wins - Danepak Fridge Magnet, £20 Just Eat Voucher, iTunes Song Download, Yellow Toaster and Kettle, Thorntons Bunny, 6 Months Gym Membership, £250 Multipower Products, 3 X Dalepak Vouchers, 10 minute sunbed session, Lucozade Sport, 2 X BMI Flights, Android Zeemote,0 -
