I have recently moved home and on unpacking found a pass book for the old N&P building society.
the last entry is dated 27-08-86, it might sound silly to forget that i appear to have several hundred pounds that i have forgotten about, to be honnest i can hardly remember anthing about it apart from opening the account.
my question is what can i do about it.

Is this the Norwich & Peterborough Building Society? If so, they have a website that you can get contact info from and just give them a call with the account number in the passbook. They may ask you to fill in a form to get the money back or maybe a form to re-invest the money into a new account.

National + Provincial was bought over by Abbey, which is now owned by Santander, depending on how much was in the account (£100+)when Abbey took over and your age at that time (1995ish) you may also be due shares and share dividend payments since that date.If the account was in your grans name but in trust for you she may have got the shares.I have a deep burning indifference0 -
Have you tried completing the form on Mylostaccounts.org.uk? I had some premium bonds that i thought i'd lost (because i couldnt find the certificate) and all i did was complete my details and i was contacted a few months later with details about how to access them again. Your case might be a bit more complicated if the Building Society has merged with Abbey but its probably still worth ago.0

you should also search "lost accounts" on the main moneysavingexpert site, theres a whole section about reclaiming lost cash.0
