ISP for large usenet downloads

Options
Can anyone reccomend an ISP who desn't throttle your download speed beyond, say 100GB in a month of usenet downloads

I don't need the ISP to provide great retention/completion on their own usenet servers (would be nice though) as I use a paid for 3rd party usenent host.

I was paying for the premium "for people who do lots of downloading" service at £21.99 a month.

And yes, I do know its :naughty:

Cheers,

  • Bloody hell mate! 100gb a month! Thats more than 3gb a DAY!!

    ...

    And i thought i was bad :D
  • If you're not too bothered about great speeds, NTL 1m and 2mb cable is unlimited... Although they do have a fair usage policy :p

I use the same company and used to download 180gig though now i download only 10gig at a push a month. Your best best is zen as you pay for what you get as i have installed many zen lines (for students) great support, great speed and service though not cheap and i dont think the news service is up to much though i would try https://www.adslguide.org for detailed info. For an ISP i dont think you can beat Zen.
  • To be fair I don't think I ever got to 100 gig in a month, the restriction hit after I had a heavy couple of days (about 20 gig in 48 hours).

Well theres Zen - unrestricted unthrottled and expensive OR theres AOL which is cheap if you can stand the thought of it OR theres NewNet which is currently uncapped and unthrottled. Worth thinking about is Zetnet which is currently uncapped but probably won't take kindly to you hammering the connection 24/7.

Thanks, lots of people have suggested Zen to me (you're right about AOL, couldn't look myself in the mirror ;) ). As they are on the pricey side do you (or anyone) know how the retention is on their own usenet servers??

    Cheers!
  • I'm on f2s, now I know at the moment some people are having problems with it (although it seems to be the 8mb+ speeds that are having the real problems) and so am I for surfing, its a bit slow, but for downloading I am getting max speed, 2mb. Its the Connect Plus package @ 24.99 now it use to be unlimited, but I've heard they've put a fair usage policy on of 100gb a month, although I have never been made aware of this by f2s.
I also have a 3rd party usernet host and have never had any problems with downloading or going beyond my limit.

    Hope this helps
  • NTL have removed the cap for 1 and 2 Mb broadband connections :-)

However for downloading newsgroup binaries (which I gather you're doing) I would suggest NTLs newservers aren't up to the job and you would have to get a newsgroup subscription from someone else. :-(

    I hope that helps

ntl’s Usenet support did use to be awful. However, for my location, it’s now very good. It’s fast, with good completeness and reasonable retention times – years for text-only newsgroups, and about ten days for binaries.
