Loud noise on acceleration+slowing down.
Hi i wonder if any one can help me?
I've got a 2002 vw polo tdi and ive been noticing a noise when i increase in speed, almost like i have a motorbike in the car with me?!. The noise then decreases when i'm slowing down. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Its hard to describe the noise that is coming from the car.
Thanks for any help and replies.

check the exhaust.
Sounds like a wheel bearing to me tho I prefer to describe it as being followed by a helicopter

OK does it do do it when stationary and you rev the engine?
If Yes then hole in exhaust
If No then it might be a bearing (but slowing down or accelerating should not have much effect. Going round corners would make a bearing more noticeable))0 -
I took the car to charlie browns who took it out on a test drive with me there. The guy said it was def the drivers side rear wheel bearing that had gone. They checked the exhaust which was fine. They have quoted me £150 to replace it as i need the whole kit apparantly because of discs?. Does that price sound about right or would i be paying too much?.
Thanks for all the replies and help. :rolleyes:0 -
£150 for a wheel bearing replacement is a massive ripoff. The absolute most you should pay is £100 for the job.
The bearing is nothing to do with the disc.0
