Virgin card

I want to apply for the virgin card to begin stoozing - is it the 0% balance transfer card or the 0% purchases card we should use?
Also noted on the internet application form there is no option to balance transfer to a bank account - do you use a switch number or do it after setting up the account?

Comments

  • You want the balance transfer card so that you can transfer the balance from your OTHER card which DOES allow you to put the money in your bank account.

So really you need another card which allows this, some possibilities being egg or Mint.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • You can do BT's from your current account with a Virgin card.
  • when can you do the BT from the current account - is it online once the card is set up - there seems to be nowhere to do so on the application forms, only BT's from other cards

Virgin don't 'advertise' this feature. You can ring 0800 015 0307 with your request once the card is up and running, or carry out the SBT online from your secure area. You can also write yourself a cheque.
  • excellent - thanks

Can this be done with any MBNA card? I.e. my MBNA bmi card? I am thinking of phoning up to cancel to see if they will give me another 0% offer. Also, if they offer me a low rate life of balance (say 4.9%), then will that also apply to a cheque paid to myself or transaction on the website?

You need to be careful here, because MBNA and many (most?) of the MBNA 'administered' cards wrote to their customers in Autumn 2005 with some changes to their T&C's.

They introduced a 'money transfer' definition for what we call SBT's, which allows them to charge 22.9% APR as they class it as a 'cash transaction'. You need to check your own T&C's and any letters/e-mails you've had from them to see if you've had your T&C's changed.

As far as I know, after checking their online T&C's, Virgin are the only 'mainstream' MBNA brand that have yet to make the change.

Impossible to answer. You will need to read the T&C's on the cheques themselves, or accompanying letter. If in doubt, ask customer services. At the very minimum, take a name & ext number, and record the date & time of the call - or better still, get it in writing.

Looks like I might as well just cancel the MBNA and get an Egg card and play it safe then. Thanks.
