Have you got all the XP updates?
Is it XP you are using? (sorry if i misssed that)
Have you anti spyware or Antivirus and a firewall
Now have a look in Control Panel Add/Remove Programs and remove any search bars.0 -
Messenger has probably written the entries you are seeing in the registry or is simply hiding them or protecting them.
If you are running XP, you could try going back to a restore point just before you downloaded the latest Messenger (Start, Help & Support, then under "Pick a Task" click on "undo changes to your computer with System Restore"). But before you do, consider what else you have done since then as you may lose stuff.
You will be able to go forward again but many years of experience in IT support has taught me to think, then think again before doing anything. If you don't have current backups, BACK UP ANYTHING IMPORTANT NOW. !!

Forgot to mention that if you want to check your system to see if there are any nasties, go to http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp and run the online system scan. It is a safe ste to use.0 -

Do you have Norton or anything like that? Anything like Zonealarm Firewall

There is a online tester that can verify the secureness of the PC
