It isn't illegal to record calls by any type of recording equipment, and you do not have to tell the person on the other end of the line. What is illegal is secretly recording and then publishing it to a 3rd party without permission, unless a court has ordered publication.

I do a mix of both, some are recorded by voice and some are written down.

    Is that right?

and here is the reference to RIPA:

See section 2, then subsections 2 & 8 - both only make it illegal if transmitted to a 3rd party.

There's lots of organisations selling equipment, so for an unbiased view I'll pick a paper instead:

How strange that I said exactly the same thing when Mothballed had his very long thread on the go and I got treated to a barrage of abuse from him.

Lizzie is quite correct. I tape conversations using covert equipment with people all the time in my self employed work hence why I knew my legal position on it.

Hopefully if Mothballed came on he would like to apologise to me:p

Cheers, had a look back at that one (forgot how long it was).

In the context of his reasoning, he was wrong. I do think though that solicitors are able to listen - they have rules governing what they can repeat.

I gave the CSA my ex's parents address (as he was back living there) and also his employers details (where he was working cash in hand) both his parents and his employer covered for him, his parents even told the csa that he was somewhere in australia and they had no contact for him!!!
Eventually he got a 'proper' job and they found him through the tax records as far as I know and they pounced. Now he is crying because he has arrears, and i have told him he only has himself to blame for avoiding them for so long!

    THEY NEVER CLOSE CASES.

At the moment they are working on longstanding arrears, so worth getting in contact with them. They are using more powers then ever before, if you are genuinely owed the money then don't give up.

Really??? Thats what they told me. Hmmm to be honest my daughter is better off without that **persons** money. He hasnt seen her for 8 yrs and i dont intend to stir things up because of money. Im looking to get her adopted by my hubby instead, someone who actually gives a d*mn about her.
sorry for going off on a bit of a rant there :o
