Has anyone ever had the CSA actually find somebody?
My ex wont contact them and they do not appear able to find where he is currently living/working, they keep giving me contradictory answers every time I speak to them and I just wondered if anyone had any experience of them actually tracking down an NRP?

Nope!! I applied to CSA for my ex to pay for my daughter back in 1999. I gave them his phone num, his address, his mums addy, his mums phone num etc etc. they went to his house, the rang etc etc after 3 yrs they said they couldnt get him to give any details so closed the case :0(
YET: When my sons dad applied for csa (im the NRP) they rang me wihin 7 days of his aplication and i started paying within 14 days.0 -
my mum tried with my brothers dad... she gave them his name, phone number, adress, place of work, and they never ever got back to her... then a few months ago(6 years later) they sent her a letter saying that they are in the process of sorting it out now??? lol0

is there any way you can do some detective work yourself? a mutual friend? my ex had his facebook profile open containing his mobile number and his employers details which came in quite handy!0

The csa are useless even when given the full address.
I made my inital application online a few years ago. They did phone me back for even more information. No idea why they wanted to know my current partner, all children etc, but they did then go on to phone my partner for payments instead of my ex.
Just to show how bad they are - I was later told that my ex did not live at the address I had provided. Of course I challenged them on the very basis that I had only taken our children there a couple of days earlier (as I had done for months), the later confession was that they had been writing to his past employers home address! (speechless especially considering that was a previous employer to my request and I didn't even know that employers company other than the bosses first name so could not even trace his home address myself).
pd001 says always deal with the csa in writing as they lie, deceive etc. Personally i wouldn't refuse calls, but it is wise to record them.0 -
Whats the legal position on recording calls?
The CSA phoned me and my PA took the call. They rudely ended the call when they heard my PA typing in the background. Taking notes during a call also seems a grey area especially when the CSA's motive for the call was contentious.0 -

I do see your point about recording calls.
How do you record them?
If you use some form or voice recording system then you have to advise the person that you are speaking to that the conversation is being recorded. They may refuse to speak to you!
If you are merely recording on paper, the fact that you have spoken to someone at the csa, then I wouldn't mind betting that you are doing much more than the idiots at the csa sometimes do...or not do!
The csa not recording that fact that they have spoken to you on the phone is a very common problem.
I have even had letters from then stating that 'contact may be attempted by telephone'.
I hasten to add that this bit of a letter, if it is in there, is merely ignored by me. I will not allow myself to be bullied by these fools.

I did find out where he was working before through google and the managed to do a detatchment of earnings but he left that job last year and they haven't done anything since, but I expect they wont bother.
We don't have any mutual friends as the split was quite messy so no chance of any info there and he's got his facebook profile locked down.
Think I will just give it up now as I am not going to get anywhere and the likelyhood is that he probably doesn't have a job so wont get anything anyway.Sealed Pot Challenge #623, Boots points = 619Current Debts: £62K:A0 -
sassygirl.
THEY NEVER CLOSE CASES.
At the moment they are working on longstanding arrears, so worth getting in contact with them. They are using more powers then ever before, if you are genuinely owed the money then don't give up.0 -
I might give them another call on Monday then and see what response I get this time...Sealed Pot Challenge #623, Boots points = 619Current Debts: £62K:A0

It isn't illegal to record calls by any type of recording equipment, and you do not have to tell the person on the other end of the line. What is illegal is secretly recording and then publishing it to a 3rd party without permission, unless a court has ordered publication.
I do a mix of both, some are recorded by voice and some are written down.0
