Sky TV

Hi,

I'm considering cancelling my Sky subscription and was wondering if I will still be able to use my Sky+ box to record programmes on the non-subscriber channels (e.g. BBC1) or will the box cease to work once the contract ends?

Thanks

Recording is part of the subscription if you cancel they cancel you and your saved programmes would go as well, get them off quick.

I am also thinking of canceling Sky when the footy season finishes so would be interested in what the freesat boxes are like for recording stuff. Is there a EPG like on Sky + ?

    Yes they have EPG's

T3 magazine done a review of Freeview and Freesat boxes last month.

Good advice in principle. In practice there's always new technology around the corner. If you base your buying on proposed future changes you'll never buy anything. When I buy a computer, for example, I know it will be obsolete in 6 months time.

There is an EPG feature on Sony DVD/Hard Drive recorders, these are my own preference although I do have three Toshiba units, but the Sonys are the best (I have two of those). The Sonys also have series linking so you get all the parts of a series over a sequence of weeks.

You will need good Freeview signal for these to work, if your TV is not already Freeview you may need an aerial upgrade.

Take care NOT to buy an expensive Freeview box at the moment as coming soon around the corner to the UK will be HD Freeview in MPEG4. But if you don't spend much money it won't matter too much.

I allready have a Sky dish so I would probably be better off sticking with Freesat.
