inhaler running low, so thought I'd phone to get replacement ordered- nice lady said there was usually a 2day wait to get scripts prepared & signed off, and they dont normally take requesnts by phone..
''please wait a moment...'
she then came back and said as they were closed over the weekend, to be on safe side they will get done for collection this pm.
what a relief!

good news for the NHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we always hear so many bad things about them, completly forgetting what life would be like if we didn't have it--
I recently had a breast lump scare--was seen by GP and had complete overhaul in a breast care clinic in less than 2 weeks. Mammogram, ultra sound and biopsy all done. Was reading on the inter web (as you do, and scaring myself to death) and hearing from women in USA who wait months, thier insurance refuses to pay, the chairty runs out of money and just stops treatment, or they are under or over an age limit.
The NHS has its problems, but I am really glad that it is there.
ps
hope you don't need the inhaler over the weekend!!LBM-2003ish

Lovely to hear praise for doctors receptionist for a change!
I was one a few years ago, and would move heaven and earth for the patients. Unfortunately a lot of the time, receptionists are hampered by the doctors themselves, not having time to do such requests. I would just print out the prescription(if it was a repeat one) and wave it under the nearest doctors nose until they signed it! (sometimes it got me into trouble with the doctors, but for me, if it was urgent, I didn't mind) - same with appointments, especially with children and elderley, I would always try to squeeze them in on the day.0 -

I am a GP receptionist, please dont give us all a bad name, I go out of my way to help our patients and so do our GP's we are under pressure from the PCT to reach targets and this puts us under a lot of stress but we dont take it out on pts! many pts ring and say i just need some advice and cant understand when we say we are not trained to give it! even commensence like taking paracetamol for fever or fluids for D&V ! we always take the number and get the gp to call them back usually within 10 mins. Perhaphs our pts are lucky! but remember Receptionists are people who are also pts somewhere so treat us like you would like to be treated!0

It's good to hear praise where it's deserved.
My mum is having chemo at the moment, and anytime i've phoned over for a prescription for her, i've just said it's an emergency and could I pick up a prescription that day, and everytime they've managed. Usually you have to wait 24 hours after phoning. I don't even get to speak to a receptionist because we have an automated prescription line.
I'm also a carer, and have went in to see my doctor with a patient. After the appointment I asked him if I could ask a question about my mum - and he printed out a prescription for me then and there, without me even asking for one. It wasn't even me who had the appointment to see him.
Another time I went to see him with my daughter and he asked how my mum was keeping, and he told me to tell her to phone anytime if she had any problems. He also phoned her at home after she'd been diagnosed at the hospital, just to see how she was. Very nice and personal.0 -
Lucky. I went to the Dr today and was referred to the another part of the surgery, with a seperate reception. Stood at the little desk (had a glass window which was closed) There were 3 women standing on the other side, 1 of them looked right at me,ignored me and carried on chatting with her colleagues!! I had to knock on the window, as if disturbing them and was greeted with a sour faced receptionist who was not in the least bit interested and RUDE!!! *some* receptionists seem to think they're high above their actual postion! Rant over. thank you.0
