Tell my Dad he's wrong....

My Dad has just got broadband.
Despite the fact I have supplied him with a CD with the setup programmes for Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, MS Anti Spyware, AVG anti virus and Zone Alarm firewall he insists that his 30 (or so) mins surfing a day on his 'favourite' sites is OK and he will not encounter any problems.
I have tried to tell him otherwise and that he should protect himself.
Can you good MSE'rs please help me persuade him?

Of course its fine to run with nothing on it, providing he doesn't mind a virus coming on and eating up all those files of his, and then the joy of someone replicating those precious personal details.
Fat dad- get the software now, or its a good telling off for youWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Shame on you Mr FatBoy Snr.
It only takes a few mins for an unprotected pc to pick a virus that could ruin your pc.
Having an always-on connection means a hacker will have a huge 30mins to hack into his pc, and just because you're not browsing doesn't mean that your pc can't be hacked into or scanned for password, and various other sorts.
If you don't keep yourseelf protected it will cost you time and money to get it fixed. Save yourself the hassle later on.
FB has taken the time to burn a cd with a excellent set of tools, love you son!!!

LMAO

He's never heard of this site. Once I get a few replies I'm going to send him the link to this discussion.
Could be a new MSE'r (though he'd be in the Silver Surfers area
)

Albertross thanks for the links.
However I think he won't bother reading them. Short concise reasons to protect himself are the way forward here (especially as he is the 'IT' guru for my mums internet connection as well)!!
Please just give short answers as to why he is is wrong, thanks
Edit - gave you a thanks Albertross for the effort to make the links

when he does get a virus or a worm or whatever will he be able to fix it or will you have to do it?
i told my dad that if he expects me to look at it when it goes wrong ( as he would) he has to at least take some precautions.

JPS - It will be me who gets the phone call saying the computer is dead.
I have warned him, and the purpose of this thread is to reinforce my warnings (I am sure he thinks I am melodramatic and/or drunk)FB :heartpuls Wiggly
