5 & 6.36 megapixel cameras £29.99 & £39.99

Just bought a 6.36 megapixel digital camera from Somerfields.
Its a Lumicron with 2" LCD screen at the back.
3x Optical zoom (and 2X digital zoom)
Records video clips with audio.
Supports MMC & SD cards and comes with 32Mb card.
Direct to TV output for pictures and movies.
USB connection.
Carry pouch.
Somerfields have a poster up suggesting Argos are selling it for over £100 although I couldn't find it on argos site, they do have a number of Lumicron cameras with the cheapest being £129.
Model LDC-618Z3 See it here -> http://www.lumicron.net/P_618Z3.html

I have had a little play and it seems a good solid well thought out design. Very impressed for under £40.
There was another 5 megapixel for £29 by a different brand - something like Medion?

What are the photo's actually like? Some of these cheap cameras have quite poor colour/white balance.
Does seem on paper to be a good spec, although a 32MB card wont do much for you on the quality settings.
Shame the video format is a low resolution and only 22fps. I know if you want a decent video camera then you should buy a video camera, but you don't always carry both around with you. ;)

Might be worth a further look.
    Waddle you do eh?
  • I'll try it out tomorrow in the daylight and post back.
My intentions was to buy a cheap camera for my running - doing a big race down in Devon next month where it could get knocked, banged etc - lots of mud on the course.
I previously had a real cheap ToysRUs £15 jobby. No lcd, no memory cards (if battery jogged lose, lost all pictures happened a lot!).
Its a bit bigger that I had hoped, but compared to a keyring jobby, I guess it would be!
So, for what I want it for, I think the quality will be fine.
Will report back on pictures tomorrow.

These were going for £49.99 back in mid Jan in Somerfield stores, theyt must have reduced them even further to get rid of the the remaining stock. £39.99 is an absolute bargain!

For the LDC-618Z3 , that's incredible value at £40 - a quick search has the cheapest online source at around £114!

Jenoptik are good cameras so although less MPs it'll probably out perform a cheaper make.

The lenses used by jenoptik are exceptionally good.

Referral link ? looks like someone pointing out a similar product at a similar price.

Still - I went to two Somerfields looking for this - both had none. Said that Somerfield were withdrawing from the hardware market but some stores were acting as focal points to dispose of old stock. Best to ask when you go in and find the nearest 'focal' store to you

  • Got one of the 6.36 ones from Somerfields in Basingstoke this lunch time. However, the price was £49.99.

    BTW - They still had a few of the 1GB MP£ players @ £25.

  • Got mine for £39.99 in Somerfields on Canvey Island. Seem to do a lot of this kind of stuff in there.
    Got a microwave £34.99 and a Dyson DC07 £99 the other week.
A bit of a drive, but they sell more stuff than the Somerfields near me.
Took some pics today. Will post later this evening with the results.
