ebico - utility warehouse vs EON dual fuel

i am with the following companies because i thought they were cheaper than eon, is this the case? or am i missing important factors like a duel fuel discount?

UW electricity is a straight 10.5 pence pkwh

ebicos gas is a straight 3.5 pence pkwh (reduction due end of march)

but

EON's prices constantly top the comparison tables, am i missing something?

Unit prices

Gas6.360p per kWh
3.466p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.a

Electricity24.53p per kWh
10.17p per kWh above 900 kWh p.a

did i make the right choices? or should i be with eon?

Every time I 'do' the switching sites it's entirely possible to get the very best deal by NOT going for dual fuel. Silly but indicative of the industry we are in. Try doing it again but individually, then simply add up the savings of each company that comes top of the table. Then do it with dual fuel and see if the best figure beats the figure showing in your calculator.

E-on and Ebico are polar opposites. It depends on your usage. E-on is only decent value if you use lots and lots and lots of energy. If you have a normal consumption, they are expensive. Ebico is great value if your consumption is low. Utility Warehouse have three different tariffs for those with various usages.

Until you combine them with your expected consumption the naked unit prices are meaningless
  • i still dont understand how any of the big 6 are cheaper no matter how much energy you use.

if the cost per kwh is cheaper at ebico than on any tier of an eon plan or the big 6, how can eon work out cheaper for anybody as opposed to the ebico unit price (gas)

eon Gas6.360p per kWh3.466p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.aebico gas

    EquiGas costs 3.675p per kWh

so what im saying is that theres no higher charge on the ebico price, sorry im finding it difficult to describe what i mean but you get the jist.

    Eh?

E-on charge you 3.466p per kWh. Ebico charge you 3.675p per kWh. E-on's Tier 2 price is cheaper than Ebico's. The cost per kWh is not cheaper at Ebico.

The more gas you use, the cheaper the average two tier price becomes. It tends closer and closer to the Tier 2 price. Because E-on's Tier 2 price is cheaper than Ebico's price then if you use enough gas the E-on tariff is cheaper.

(Actually, I've noticed that you are kind of right with those particular gas prices you give - you'd have to use more than 37,000 kWhs of gas before E-on is cheaper - twice the national average.)

Ah, but you are not including E-on's discounts - they vary between 8% and 17.5% - that'll account for the difference.

Edit: With only an 8% discount, E-on is cheaper at about 15,000 kWhs of gas.
