If ebay item doesn't arrive.

Hi folks,

I have sold and bought a few items on ebay without any trouble. Just bought a memory stick last week for a psp £64. The guy has only a low feedback 5 and that is for items he bought himself all positive. I bid at last minnute of auction so probably wasn't clued up enough. Learning as I go along!! Hope Im not jumping the gun here, as probalby it will arrive ok, but I'd like to know anyways in case I buy more stuff on ebay what a buyers rights are for item not arriving.

I have just got this worrysome feeling that I won't get the item as the item I bought at same time has already arrived.

For the £64 item I paid through paypal. he charged almost a £10 for postage didn't say recorded or anything, but that is more or less usual postage charge for this. item. Says on ebay ad it could take up to 3 weeks for delivery. just think that is stretching it a bit. I have e-mailed him to send it recorded to me, but no answer.

In the event I don't get the item what options do I have? I have been reading up on it on ebay and it seems money will be refunded less £15 admin fee. As I payed though paypal in the event of non-delivery is it better to clain through them? Seller doesn't have that paypal buyer protection shield or anything.

Could someone enlighten me on comp that can be claimed in event of a buyer being defrauded and item not sent, as I'm a terrible worrier....lol

thanks

Paypal do not charge the £15 admin fee that ebay do, so you have more protection than if you had sent a cheque or done a bank transfer.

If the item does not arrive in a reasonable amount of time then start a chargeback through paypal, log into your paypal account and click on resolution centre and go from there. You have 45 days in which to make a claim, so don't panic.

However, should the seller suddenly start to look dodgy, ie he picks up any negs or suddenly stops selling, then slam the chargeback in ASAP.

PS: He should be sending the item special delivery NOT recorded as recorded only covers items up to £30.

  • Thanks for that. When paying for items through paypal it comes out of my current bank account instead of my cc (used only as a backup)
Will this offer me the same protection in any dispute for non delivery of an item bought on ebay?

It gives you the same protection with paypal, but for added back up it is best to use paypal funded by a credit card as you can always do a chargeback via the CC company.
