camping in the lakes

Does anyone know of any good value campsites in the lake district, not looking for much just clean toilet blocks, not to overcrowded and loud and family friendly

thanks

castlerigg hall just outside keswick over looking derwent water is a favourite of mine, not the cheapest but i thought good value http://www.castlerigg.co.uk/
  • There's a great place near Ambleside - the village is called Chapel Stile, and basically you go through the village, past a great pub called the Wainwrights and follow the road around. On the left theres a sign for Baysbrown Farm campsite. Follow the driveway round, over the little bridge and you are there! It's basic, sheep wandering around the fields! Theres a toilet block up by the farmhouse although when I was there last year they were building what may be a shower block cos we just used to stand in the river and wash our hair!! He used to charge £2 per adult and £1 parking per night although it may go up a little if there are showers there! And you have a fantastic view of the Langdales!! But on the plus side it's quiet and tends to attract more walkers and die-hard campers because there's no luxuries (which I think is a plus point!!
Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.

We stay at the National Trust campsite in Langdale. They have a field specifically set aside for families. Clean loo and shower block................

please dont stay in or near Keswick.. its like the Blackpool of the lakes.. Ambleside is great , but a little quiet, Windermere, or Bowness on Windermere. would be better.. Lots to do , loads to see, and great access for the rest of the lake District..

can send you some stuff if you Pm me

    Me too :j

There are a choice of pubs within walking distance, old Dungeon Ghyll and the new Dungeon Ghyll... both lovely places, one's all olde worlde and the other's a bit more modern and serves pub food.

There are some lovely walks up Langdale but do make sure that you leave plenty of time to get back down the mountain, have waterproofs, decent shoes, food and warm clothes.

    :)
Just run, run and keep on running!

I've stayed at Castlerigg, it was very nice and reasonably quiet on a busy weekend (a few years ago though!)

Ooooh, don't Jay-Jay! We've just come back from a week up there - but stayed in a cottage in Ambleside this time as I'm only a fair weather camper, I'm afraid! We did find Ambleside very busy............ but it just depends what you want.

Plenty of lovely walks round Langdale. We did an 8 mile walk from Elterwater, which was relatively low-level so perfect for families.
