Full time carer for my mother so I have signed.
My local carers association are organising a coach for the London protest so I may go if I can get cover from SS.

wow..there's 30 more signatures since last night! This is great news. I think they'd mentioned somewhere they're aiming for a thousand to take to westminster and the scottish parliament. The only problem with the march, is that by definition this is a group of people who find it difficult to take time out from their responsibilities. They're encouraging local charities to pay for respite to help. I'm hoping they can attract non-carers to go as well, as you can turn into a carer overnight.
How do emails get into Martin's weekly bulletin? If he could use his mailing list to raise awareness it would really help. Or are his emails strictly for moneysaving only?0 -

Signed as well. My husband used to get Carers Allowance for me until he turned 65 and got his state pension (overlapping benefit). I have recently reduced my partime hours due to my health and have just been awarded C A for him! The whole system desperately needs a review.0

The Careers system is totally wrong. I receive Ca for my father and get the £50 per week, as I still wanted to work I only work part time to qualify - you can earn up to £95 without it affecting your CA. Unfortunately you have to work 16 hrs plus to qualify for Working Tax Credit. Basically I had to find a job for 16 hrs (no more and no less) and on minimum wage to qualify for the two........ The jobs I have done in the past have been a lot more than minimum wage. We really cant win, Surely of you look after someone you should get the money... regardless of what your earnings are, Lets face it if the person was in a nursing home it would cost the government alot more than £50 a week!!!!!!! My mum tried to get CA - and was told she was too old!!!! Dont figure - she lives with him and looks after him but is too old to get paid for doing so...0

My hubby gets DLA and I claim Carers Allowance, as well as the dependant adult component, as a result my carers allowance is £80.75 per week, but I also claim IS for the both of us and my carers rate comes off my income support. This effectively halfs the amount of income support that I get so I am really no better of for claiming it, the only benefit I get is the £27 carer premium on top.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.
