Faulty diamond ring?

Options
Hi.hope someone can help,my boyfriend brought me an engagement ring on the 12th feb,it was to big so we took it back to the shop and they re-sized it for me,it was returned to us on tuesday the 3rd march.on the same night i realised there was a flaw/hairline crack on the diamond.we phoned the shop the next day and was told to go into the shop on thursday because the manageress would be in. We took it in and after a while she admitted there was a flaw in it.but also added that diamonds have natual flaws,as we paid £2000 for the ring, i dont expect a flaw to be noticed with the naked eye,i could also feel the crack with my finger. She told us that she would have to have her boss look at the ring and as he was not there, we left the ring with her and we were told we will be contacted on saturday the 7th march.
I have since heard bad reports about the shop, what are my rights ? can i demand a refund? and what happens if they try to blame me for the fault?

Regards Luan

Take a look here for information on diamonds (particularly 'clarity')
    http://www.diamondgeezer.com/diamond-buyers-guide/

Diamonds DO have natural flaws (called inclusions) and if the quality of the stone is SI2 then it's possible that the inclusion can be seen without magnification.

However, if it really IS a crack (as opposed to a chip that may have happened during the cutting process and you didn't notice it), then the stone is damaged and may well split into two.
Inclusions are generally inside the diamond, so if you say you can feel a crack, I'd be very worried.

Was the stone 'certified'? i.e. does it have a certificate from a gemological society/institute?
    How big is the diamond?

Is the shop a national chain or is it an independent jeweller?

tbh if this fault was present at the time of purchase and you were given plenty opertuntity to inspect the ring and stone you may not have that much comeback - how was the ring paid for?
