August accom in London

I've arranged a week's work experience at The Independent in London for Monday August 10th - Friday August 14th.

The paper's HQ is in Canary Wharf. I'm looking to arrive on the Sunday and leave after I finish work on Friday.

The cheapest accomodation I can see is London Docklands Travelodge - 0.9 miles away - but they're £35 a night which I thought was a bit steep considering it's only March now.

Can anyone recommend any alternatives? Do you think there'll be offers on closer to the time?

Thanks in advance.

    Grab it while you can!

I've just done an availability check on Laterooms for the area and 4 major hotels and 2 large apartment complexes are already showing full on those dates.
There's nothing on at the O2 or the Excel, which affect this area greatly, but there may be a few major conferences in the area. £35 is very cheap for any area of the city.

    Definitely grab it-that's a bargain
If £35 is "steep" how much were you expecting it to be ? I think you're going to be in for a bit of shock with Docklands prices for everything

Might be worth checking out university accommodation which can often be cheaper than hotels. It is open to anyone - you don't have to be a student and you might save yourself a small amount if you are willing to give it a go.

There is a youth hostel in Rotherhithe which is a shortish walk/bus ride from Canada Water tube station which is only a stop away on the Jubilee Line from Canary Wharf.

As far as uni accomodation goes it might be useful to check out Goldsmiths College which is in the general area. They have halls in the New Cross area. This is a short hop from Lewisham by overgound train or bus, from where you can pick up a DLR train to Canary Wharf.

Also try hostels such as Piccadilly Backpackers. Although they are based in Piccadilly it is easy to get to Canary Wharf:

Bakerloo Line from Piccadilly Circus to Waterloo
Waterloo and City Line from Waterloo to Bank.
DLR from Bank to Canary Wharf.

The above all counts as one journey on your Oyster Card, and I find it much quicker and less crowded than using the Central Line to get to Bank.

Do not be be completely focused on getting accomodation very close to Canary Wharf as most of us commute much further than this every day.

    Hope that is helpful.
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...

Use Topcashback for some cashback with Travelodge.

Thing is though if your work experience goes belly up or is moved to another week you won't be able to transfer or get a refund with Travelodge Saver rooms.
