Am I entitled to Housing Upgrade?

Options
My wife and I are currently in 2 bed house with box room, with two young girls. I believe the house is type B and our entitled type is C iaw http://www.defence-estates.mod.uk/publications/jsp/jsp464/906_JSP464Pt1.pdf page 55.

One of our girls was recently diagnosed (missed by various doctors, whilst we were labelled as paranoid) with a genetic condition and is now in receipt of DLA and higher rate mobility.

As part of her care she requires extra equipment and treatments several times a day. She may also require respite care in the future now and again, though obviously for us this will be a last resort. This means she has the larger room and her sister is confined to the box room, which is just big enough for a single bed and a small chest of drawers. The house itself we believe has added to her condition, as she is affected respirately, and it is impossible to heat because of such poor insulation, sub standard glazing (which actually lets the wind blow through. It is common to see the curtains billowing inside with the windows closed. Yes I've had MOD contracters round to look at them. They say they need changed but it never gets any further than HIC) and boiler so old that no one knows what to do with it when they come to service it.(i dread to think how much extra it costs to run a month over a new version)

We applied for a larger quarter but none available in the area according to Warminster HIC. We are now confined to the waiting list for 6 months, with 3 months gone and no change, apparently because its termed as mid duty move. Even on medical/welfare case

Can anyone offer any advice whether we could push for a Non Availability Certificate and hope for SSFA or just hold out to see if a SFA upgrade is in fact granted.

Thanks in advance for any help with this. Ideally we would buy but need to use LSAP and its just not enough to get on the ladder, even with added savings.

End of transmission, I'm off my soapbox.

I'm not sure how you work out that your house is a type B...which only has 2 double bedrooms.

A type C is 2 doubles and a single, which you have..

    Sorry...

Are you in Warminster? There's loads of 3 beds empty, people with 2 kids living in 4 beds and ex wives still living in MQ. It drives me mad! We are in what I would call the smallest 2 bed house ever!! And because the houses are that crap and in need of modernising they have downgraded our house saving us £40 a month on rent.

I hope they sort you out soon x

Go looking for empty quaters and then call them and see what they say.
  • Get a letter from your doctor or other health care professional stating that your daughter will require extra room for all her medical equipment. There are several houses on our patch adapted for disabled people. The lady down the road lives in a 4 bed detatched with 1 disabled child. I would keep on and on at them, ringing them every week and eventually you should get somewhere. I would also suggest getting your families officer involved and mentioning such things on the pressures this is bringing on your wife. I hope this helps.
