Some of the suggestion about removing the mould may work, but they woiuldnt resolve the underlining problem, as Little John said "The mould is forming due to moisture in the air" As he sugegsted a extractor fan or as I did the cheap way keep window open for 10-15 minutes, it can be that simply and effective solution.

I would do what I also suggested "What we did was I went into the loft and pushed in insulation material with a stick. That cured the problem in two bedrooms we have. The bathroom did have such a problem other than steam when we wash and we just open the window."

We had the problem really bad in the kids room as it its a North facing and is always cold even in Summer. Water was running down the walks and had thick mould. It got some bad we called Enviromental health, which didnt help much. We had to clean the whole wall with bleach and let it air with window open all day. Finally it cleared we installed insulation behind a wardrobe (it was packing material) and then did the loft. I think the extra insulation in loft did the trick it isnt as bad now at all.

Best thing I have found in all my mouldy places is dettol mould remover. Just spray it on and leave it and come back and wip later. It also works great for grouting and mud sprayed on walls from dogs.
    Nice to save.

You can also get paint and you need 3 layers...one that is an anti fungal paint then a damp proof one then the colour of the rest of the celing.
    Nice to save.
  • It might sound stupid but my OH has used a bleach solution several times to get rid of mould, although mostly on sealant around the bath and grout but it does work wonders. As for rectifying the problem I have a similar case, although I have no bathroom window to open. What I have is a ceiling fan with goes into the loft and out of the soffit, the reason that it doesn't work (doesn't work is not really striong enough! - It's crap) is because the flexible ducting (like you get for tumble dryers) is put at an immediate right angle inside the loft as soon as it exits the fan and then runs for about 8 metres horizontal to get to the soffit. Now it doesn't take a genius to work out that the steam is not interested in travelling all that way horizontally and after a 90 degree turn initially, hence it condenses.

REMEDY: My POA is to use a roof vent (you can get regular tile sized ones from any roofers merchants or see links below) to put in roof above fan and use a rigid pipe of appropriate diameter (like a drainpipe maybe) to connect between fan on loft floor and vent which will be in roof as thsi wont rip if knocked by tumbling cardboard boxes.
