Perhaps there's someone there you could ask? Maybe there's a closer station somewhere? If not, it's always something you could plan to do in summer - a half-hour walk when it's warm would be easy!0 -
Sorry to hijack a little...
Barginunter - please could I ask what the commute is like from Sheffield to Hull? I'm in a similar problem, my job in August will be in Sheffield and the fella has been offered one in York/Hull split - York no probs as fast train service to/from Sheffield and he can read/play on iphone etc, its the Hull commute we were wondering about as trains very slow! We did think about Leeds and both commuting but we both work shifts (mainly 8am-5pm with some evenings/weekends and nights) and mine will be more antisocial so veering more to living Sheffield way...
To add in my tuppence, for the little it's worth, if you're thinking of moving, perhaps slightly south of Leeds would be a good option so easier for you to get on motorway and not trekking through centre? I'm a Barnsley girl originally and worked in a Sheffield office for a while, M1 obviously busier at rushhour but not THAT bad from Barnsley down to Sheffield in a morning so definately do-able if you can get through Leeds ok!
What we all do for love, and our careers, eh!0 -
Grammargirl,
I live in Leeds city centre and work in the east mids. I used to live in west leeds and agree with underlay_guru that the worst part is getting to the M1, by moving into town i knocked about an hour off my journey! The earlier in your journey you can get on motorway the better.
Aside from accidents really the only other problem you will hit is the queue to come off at juct 34 (meadowhall) but shouldnt take you more than about 10mins.
The traffic usually is only going into town in a morning and out at night, so you are going the right way!!
Obviously the earlier you can do it the quicker it will be!
IMO i would take the job if it is a good opportunity, the driving confidence will come!
If you need to know good routes or anything let me know.0
