TalkTalk block Indirect Access

Hi people,

Been here for a while, but only just registered...

Basically, I'm a customer of Talk Talk's Line Rental service, and all indirect access numbers have been blocked... I've tried a few: 18866, 1877 and even 1280 (even tho thats not an access no as such)...

All you get is a message saying: "Sorry, indirect access codes cannot be used on this line, please contact your telephone service provider".

Any other TT users experiencing this?

Not a major problem for me, as I don't use any Indirect Access codes..

Yes TT are now applying the bar as standard to Line Rental Customers.

All the more reason to keep your line rental with BT,and just CPS your calls to another supplier.As Bt are the only people that have to allow you to call access numbers like 1899 etc.

See TT T&C here i quote.

"3.13 If you are an LR Services customer and elect to use another provider for some or all of your calls we may at our sole discretion decide to: (i) cancel your calls order with the provider concerned (ii) bar your use of indirect access codes, (iii) charge you a higher fee for your use of the LR Service or (iv) disconnect the LR Service."

1280 is an indirect access code if you are not a BT customer.

Indirect Access Call Barring (IACB) bars all codes starting 1xxx or 1xxxx.

I believe it costs 50p a month per line for it to be implemented. TT have just put their line rental up by 50p a month!!!!!

I'm not sure you're right there. AFAIAA, 1280 is the prefix code to use to send a call out via BT - but it's only available if your landline rental is directly with BT but you normally CPS your calls via another provider.

Unless the indirect access bar is in place its still possible to dial 1280.But its not to your advantage because the line rental supplier dictates the rate you will pay,not BT, who of course cant bill you anyway cos you have not got an account with them.

See these T&C from the Homecall Site :

4.7 Where You make a telephone call by dialling the “BT Break Out Code” (1280) and You have the Homecall Line Rental Service, We will raise Call Charges in respect of that call at the then current standard BT day time retail rate or at Our then current Call Charge rate, whichever is the higher, for the telephone number dialled

This would effectively bar Directory Enquiries services too?

DQ have a six didgit number 1xxxxx.Not a five or four didgit number!

Yes I know. It's the way you wrote it. It's normally the case that where 1x is shown that all digits after the digit '1' would be barred. I see what you mean though.

Are One.Tel line rental customers affected or not? I know that they are going to be when they get transferred to TalkTalk but until then, can indirect access codes still be used now?

Their have been no reports that Onetel line rental customers have been barred from using short codes.But when they are finally amalgamated with TT i expect they will be.
