just to say the very posh Ramada near us are doing a 'reception for a grand' offer - 40 people for full 3 course meal with drinks room hire linen etc and you can add on a buffet for 100 for later for another grand, or just do the evening for 100 people for 1k - (before 31st March 2010) so there are offers to be had - think once one does it the others follow suit - i have got 13th Feb - day before valentines day, think one of the other keys is to do it out of season, but totally agree about making invites and stuff or if you cant be bothered you can buy packs for about £3 for 10 from M & S or clintons.0

Still quite alot of denial about the state of the economy at the moment, (like you)I think the offer you posted about will become common place when people see others doing it.
Horace, I am in the £700 range , so slashing price like that is not possible, maybe I should put a £1200 package on my site and push the normal one0 -
I got the photographer I wanted at a good price I think. His prices online started at £1900 for full day coverage, albums etc,the works.I told him I would nt be happy with anyone else but really could not afford him.I wasnt interested in the full day, getting ready to evening reception package and was happy just to have some of it covered so he agreed to do a 4 hour shoot fee only for £600,this covers ceremony, couple shoot and pre-dinner champagne reception, and we can then buy photographs and albums after the wedding which means we only have to worry about some of the cost now and buy the photos later as and when we can afford them or ask for people to buy one or two as a wedding present so we can make up an album."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0

It's business - it gives the people the idea that they are getting something for less, if you join your local chamber of commerce, they will tell you that:D
Good luck with your business anyway.0 -

Thats cool, and i hope you are aware of the after wedding prices he will charge you.
TBH I think £600 for 4 hours work should include a copywrite dvd of all the photos, so you can get prints for 20p each from a lab, and buy an album online.
Thats what I do, and lets be frank, £600 for a few hours work is a good gig .0 -
a couple of photographers at the wedding fairs I have been to have beeen doing credit crunch offers (literally titled this!) in the region of £400 - but this only covers from car arriving at church to arriving at reception - much more basic album etc, I suppose it leaves you free to do other stuff then? I think te other way to cut prices is to offer a more basic album. one thing I have noticed is people seem to be booking further ahead? There are defo bargains to be had though! (for those of us buying - sorry!)0

Can anyone suggest a Wedding Insurance company who aren't rediculously expensive (we only need <£5000 cover) and who are a fairly reputable company, I've found one for £27.50 but I've never heard of them so don't know if they'd actually pay out if I needed them to!0

it is very rewarding in more ways than one.:D
Amen to that!!! I do get cross, however, when the mention of the word "wedding" sends prices up because people assume the couple will pay for anything. This forum shows that whether there is a recession on or not, people always want to save where possible. Why spend £2000 on a dress when you can get it for £200?
I must admit, since moving North, people up here tend to keep hold of their cash and are more bargain hunters. They don't (or my husband doesn't lol) spend for the sake of it.
The wedding business is always going to be competitive. You just have to make your mark.0
