Motor Insurance for foreign vehicle

Is it possible to obtain insurance for a foreign plated car which has been brought into this country and is awaiting DVLA registration.

I have a problem that I need to register a vehicle I have brought from Cyprus as I now have to live in the UK again. The vehicle has Cypriot plates, but to register it with DVLA and get UK plates, a valid certificate of UK motor insurance must be shown.

How do you get round this????....anyone able to assist????

If you speak to the right broker they will be able to issue cover with someone like Norwich Union or Axa. They normally issue a covernote or certificate on the Chassis Number as this will remain the same when you change reg so is legal. You can then take this insurance to the DVLA and they should accept it. Once they allocate a UK reg number just ring the broker up and get them to put the reg number on instead of the chassis number.

The best brokers for this are brokers situated very near military bases as they have to do this a lot when the UK military bring their vehicles back from Germany etc
