How much do political allegiancies influence answers here?

It seems to me that the debate on economic matters if often spoiled by people allowing there political views to colour their analysis of economic affairs. Is anyone else irritated? Do we really need contributions that say, in effect, because it is a Labour gov't everything will be hunky dory or to the contrary because we have a labour gov't we are doomed?

Considering it's the government in office at the time who is actually reacting and changing / implementing things, and they are the only ones with the power to do so, it's something you can never get away from.
  • There does seem to be some disconnection from reality from some of the most frothing Brown haters though. Like Rush Limbaugh in America they seem determined to see the economy fail because they think it will score them political points.

This is the whole problem with party politics. Party allegiances force people to swap their good judgement for loyalty.

"They are all as bad as each other" used to be a banal and ignorant rant. Nowadays, it is simply a truth.

Just because Gordon has been in charge of the economy for 12 years (10 of which he spent shouting "gone are the days of boom & bust) it doesnt mean it is his fault!!!

I agree, I have not voted Labour for the last two elections and will not (so far) be voting for them next time however I find myself being drawn to defend Brown due to some of the mindless drivel posted :D

It's thatchers fault, actually. I don't know how, exactly, but even though she is gagar and has been out of power for two decades as the malevolent daughter of evil she must be to blame.

I know! And he's so evil that he's managed to make the same thing happen all across Europe and America and Japan at the same time as he broke it here! Truly wicked - imagine having banking regulation so bad in the UK that it destroys the global capital markets and makes AIG lose £62bn in 3 months.

The question is do economic views drive political allegiance or do political allegiance drive economic views?

I think for some, like Rochdale & StevieJ who are blindly allegiant to Brown its definitely the latter.

I HAVE VOTED LABOUR IN THE LAST TWO BUT HOW ANYONE CAN DEFEND THIS SHOWER OF BAR STEWARDS IS BEYOND ME..THEY ARE.SELF SERVING SCUM ( ALL MPs THAT IS)
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
