Your Top Three

Out of interest how about we all post our top three Motor Insurers on here? I think we should not base it solely on price but on the "Overall Package" eg combination of service, cover and price etc.

Obviously normal MSE rules apply no self promotion etc and I don't think links are needed in this just give your top three Motor Insurers. If you want to state why then give reasons but you don't have to.

It would be interesting to have them from the "Trade" members and the general public as there will no doubt be differences of opinion.

Whose gonna start us off, I'm off round my mates for dinner and a dvd so I'll have a think while I'm round there.

It's not something that means a lot unless you can include your own claims experience - and hopefully few of us have much of that.

    My top three would be.

Norwich Union - They have their issues on making mistakes but these get sorted, their policy cover is good and they pay out on the border line cases over Insurers would just use the small print to through out. They are also quite flexible and will cover almost any vehicle so also a bit of ease of use comes into play for me

Fortis - Their approved repairer system is one of the best in my experience and they sort out run of the mill claims with the minimum of fuss. They can be a bit nit picky sometimes but for a straightforward in and out of their approved repairer they are good.

Chubb - The best policy on the market without doubt, they give an agreed value on the vehicle each year, comprehensive driving other cars for all named drivers, choose where you want to have the vehicle repaired and a like for like courtesy car. I would have put them higher put as they are only available to a few people I have put them in at number three. Shame I don't qualify for a Chubb policy.

My top three is based on my own experience, I know people will have had problems with Fortis and NU, I have myself but have worked it out overall on my own experience. No doubt other people will disagree with my selections and have their own. It will be interesting to see other peoples top threes and / or comments.

1 Privilege. Who I'm currently with. (due to being cheapest)

2 Direct Line. Could not fault their service at all.

3 NIG have been ok in the past, although not really had too much dealings with them.

I've been with Direct Line for a few years. Had a claim 4 years ago with no problems.

ASDA. Claims process was smooth though I was the only vehicle involved so no disputes. The garage that they use to do the repair work is a whole other thread though.

MoreThan. Our present insurer and we think they are great because we just added business use on both cars for free! :D

Can't comment on other cos really because once we take a policy we don't have to speak to them anymore so no idea what service etc is like.

Elephant have always been the cheapest for me and both claims (1 fault, 1 not) have both gone very smoothly with hire cars arranged and repairs carried out.

    Male, under 25.

My top 3 go's like this:

    1. Halifax - Was involved in accident with another car (non-fault) and they really fought my corner. Had everything resolved in double-quick time

    2. NU/Aviva - Cheap - and the levels of cover were very good. Customer service was quite good considering the location of their call centre.

    3. Swinton - Again, cheap when I signed up and they helped me out with an issue regarding NCD, but the renewal after the first year was ridiculous.

Let me know when we move on to the bottom 3!!!

I'm not sure doing a bottom three would be wise! The posts could get quite nasty and MSE might worry about slander/libel. I agree though it would be very interesting. Maybe one of the MSE mods could set some guidelines for it and we could give it a go

Co-operative. I have insured with the Co-op for 40 years except for a break when I had a company car. What impressed me was that many years ago I put in a claim and lost my no claims bonus for the next two or three years and then I forgot all about it. Then several years later I received a refund of all my lost bonuses because they said they had eventually recovered the loss from the other driver. Maybe that's normal practice for insurance companies, I don't know, but I was surprised at the time and I have been inclined to trust them ever since.

Glad you got great service Free Bear, that must have been a welcome surprise, it shows you how long it takes to settle a claim sometimes.

Most companies (But by no means all) would have refunded you this money if you had stayed with them, if you had transferred to another company most companies would not have refunded it so your loyalty was rewarded.
