Not enough postage.

I received two messages yesterday from buyers saying that they had received the 'while you were out' cards from royal mail informing them that they needed to pay an additional £1.06 as enough postage wasnt added to the envelopes. Once is understandable but for two buyers to e-mail with the same problem, I though something was wrong so today I have contacted all of my buyers who havent already left me feedback and whose items i posted around the same time, four of them have since got back to me saying they too either haven't received the item or they have received notification from royal mail that they have to collect and pay for the item from their local sorting office.
Now, here's my confusion, these were all dispatched from the same post office that I have used for well over a year, they were all first class large letter items at 52p, all i can assume is that the lady behind the counter mistakenly placed regular first class stamps instead of the large letter stamps, hence the need for the extra 6p + handling fee.
I posted around 20 letters of the same weight on that day so im worried that all of these will have been stamped incorrectly. Obviously I will be reimbursing each of my buyers with the additional cost they have had to bear, but will I be able to claim this back from Royal Mail? I have the proof of postage, but Im not really sure how to go about claiming?
Luckily the majority of the buyers who have contacted me have been understanding about the situation however one is threatening to leave negative feedback, even though I have offered to refund the full cost of the initial item + postage + additional postage fee. Very frustrating.
I appreciate any responses.

can you recall if she used stamps or labels?
what does you POP show for postage paid?0 -
Personally I think you will need to take it up with the Post Office that you bought the postage from, not Royal Mail - they are two separate companies.
Take your receipt back to them, along with printed emails from the customers, and discuss it with the PO manager.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
I had something like this and it was a small local post office as well, I found out the man behind the counter had stuck stamps on the plastic wrappers and they wasn't the self sticky ones either so the stamps just fell off. I contacted the post office and they sent me 4 books of stamps as compensation.0

you contacted royal mail or the post office?0 -
When this happened to me I just put in a claim form to Royal mail for all the items, plus the yellow cards that showed postage due and got a book of stamps back for each item which was more than the postage paid out.
My main batch went to a main sorting office where they wrote the price on each parcel and then stamped my COP and charged me the total, then forgot to actually stamp the parcels! They did this on a few occasions before I realised.
However I still have major problems with the plastic mailers I use as stamps do fall off of them, but again I am always compensated via Royal mail once I send in the 'payment due' card which I get from the buyer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
