We signed up for a fixed price deal until October 2009 with Eon, but can we still switch away from them?

Yes but there may be a leaving penalty, you should check the T+C's.

If this is the ‘Price Protection October 2009’ tariff, there isn’t a termination fee. There is also ‘Fixed Price 2009’ but this also doesn’t have a termination fee.

Definitely take Rian1998 advice though and check the Terms and conditions they will clarify all!!
