Single rate gas & electric?
I just had a guy at the door claiming that government legislation states I should only be paying a single rate for gas and electric, and that he was going around houses checking. Then he asked to see a bill.
He didn't say where he was from, and I've never heard about any such legislation, so is this genuine? Or is someone chancing it with me?

Sounds like a con artist who is after a utility bill and other financial details.
If it wasn't for the law being on his side, I'd punch him if he came knocking on my door.
