What is my BG tariff cost?
Hi, I am on British Gas Click Energy 6. I am trying to work out what my gas costs. I got my bill yesterday and to be honest there is a lot of chop and changing with regard to tiering units and unit cost. So, can anyone help? Here is my bill:
30 Nov 2008 - 18 Feb 2009
Gas units converted = 6719.75 used over 81 days
First 595.00 kWh x 6.533p = £38.87
Next 6124.75 kWh x 3.319p = £203.28
19 Feb 2009 - 01 Mar 2009
Gas units converted = 694.05 used over 11 days
First 81.00 kWh x 6.517p = £5.28
Next 613.05 kWh x 3.125p = £19.16
Total cost of gas used £266.59
So... can anyone help with what my tariff cost is per unit? There is a big difference between the two charges on my bill. I know they have changed prices several times since January but I have not changed tariff so it's confusing about the tiered pricing. I can't find the information on their website.

The price changed once on 19 Feb.
The Tier 2 price (the lower of the two) is your unit price. Ie, It has gone down from 3.319p to 3.125p per kWh.
In addition, you will be charged the first 670 kWh per quarter at the higher price. Tier 2 - Tier 1 is 6.517p - 3.125p or 3.392p. So 670 x 3.125 is £22.72 per quarter or £7.57 per month.
(Because of the price change, the 670 kWh have been spread pro-rata either side of the change date. So there are only 81 kWh this side of the change to reflect it's not covering a 91 day period.)
So your current price is 3.125p per kWh plus a service charge of £7.57 per month.
Of course, in summer when your heating is off, if you do not use the whole 670 kWh in any one quarter the unit price will seem higher - more than double until you have paid off that £7.57 per month service charge.0 -
BTW, this means that if you have an imperial meter this makes it easy to estimate as you go along - one unit on your meter will cost you £1, one tenth will cost 10p. This is, of course, in addition to the tier 1 £7.57 per month 'standing' charge.0

Hmm. My bill does not show a standing charge of £7.57. Where are you getting this info from?0

The Tier 1 price is 6.517p. The Tier 2 price is 3.125p. Multiply the difference between these two prices by 670 and you get £22.72 for three months.0
