So im back on my diet and have brought lots or rtc very low fat beef mince :j
But im stuck for ideas to make with it. Ive made a low fat spag bol this morning with some of it. I thought of sheperds pie adding carrots and peas to it to bulk it out but I usually add a brought packet sauce to the bottom to make a sort of gravy and these are high in calories so does anyone please have any ideas of what I can use to make the sort of gravy bit to go with the mince?
Also does anyone else please have any ideas of what else I can do with mince in a low fat way. Im sure im going to get tired of it but this weights got to come off.
Thanks in advance

Maybe make some burgers. Mix the mince up with some herbs, tomato puree, worcester sauce and onion. I make them this way and find that they dont crumble as long as you handle them carefully as theres nothing in them to really bind them together.Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0

When i fry the mince, before adding the gravy (and whatever else is going in) i always drain off the excess fat, even in low fat mince, you will still get some. A simple gravy would be a stock cube and some water, and you can pad the mince out with grated carrot, onion and even porridge oats.
You could make a cottage pie using sweet potato mash, instead of potato (much better for you) spag bol (which you have done) we like savory pancakes, just make up your mince, we would have mince, onion, carrot and garlic with some gravy and spoon in the centre of a pancake!!! We also make burgers, i dont add anything extra to ours, just shape the mince into circles (well patted together) and grill!!!!0 -
How about meat balls in a tomato sauce?0

If you are making Spag Bol, why not add some kidney beans, and some chilli sauce, and make up a batch of chilli as well.A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.:D0

Yep.
Make a vegetable soup with any (and all) veggies you like. Eat some too
Set some aside and then zap it in a blender. Then add one (beef) stock cube per half pint of soup. It makes a rich, thick, completely fat free gravy.
If you use a slow cooker you can actually chuck your mince into the soup after it's been whizzed and cook it in there.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I dry fry a pound of low fat mince and then put it in a casserole dish with a tin of chopped tomatoes and the empty tin filled with water, two oxos, a chopped pepper, two chopped carrots, some sliced mushrooms, a chopped onion and salt and pepper. Casserole in oven for two hours at 160 and it comes out all lovely and thickened and is just fab with rice or JP. This quantity makes plenty for 4. Sometimes I just dry fry a pound of mince with a chopped onion, a chopped apple, four chopped tomatoes, a tbs of curry powder, salt and pepper, an oxo and a big tbs of mango chutney - fab with naan bread - again makes enough for 4.Jane

make a mince potato soup Dry fry the mince and pour off any fat then add some potatoes, carrots, turnip, onion, leeks, add water to cover and a chicken stock cube or two, cook then mash roughly with potato masher season to taste lovely on a cold day!0

If you cook mince seperatly, first in water. The easiest way to get rid of fat is to put mince in seive and tip boiling water over it.Any congeled fat [yuck] is melted and drains away.Hope this helps,as saves the need to wait for it to cool,so you can then remove fat.0
