Is it possible to ski cheaply at February halfterm?

Does anyone have tips for ski-ing cheaply next Feb half-term?

The cheapest package holiday I can find is Inghams to Bulgaria self-catering £2800 family of four incl ski hire, pass, tuition etc. I have been to Borovets many times so would prefer not to go back. So I am trying to beat that price.

I have also tried to put together my own package to Austria flying to Salzburg, taking train to Bad Gastein, I have found an apartment for 700 euros but the cost of the ski pass, hire, tuition etc have bumped the price right up due to the weak pound and BA have just released their flights at an astronomical cost (£400 return). Has anyone experience of booking Ryanair or Easyjet to the usual ski airports at Feb half term? What are the costs like? When will the flights be released?

Anyone any experience of driving to the Alps for Feb half term?

We go to Scotlands Aviemore or one of the other 4 ski centres. Cost us £230 for hotel with pool, sauna etc last feb half term. Order the ski Scotland brouchure with prices for skiing this season. Was very cheap and the only other expense was a tank of fuel.lol

Have you ever thought about Sierra Nevada in Spain? It is not the Alps but the snow cover is good and if you are bored with skiiing, Granada with its fabulous Alhambra is about an hour away. You can fly into Granada and be at the slopes in an hour.

I know very little about ski-ing but have you concidered Poland, I believe they have a few ski resorts, Zakopane seem to be the most popular and normally plenty of ryanair/easyjet flights to Krakow as well.
  • Hi,
Have you considered using the 'snow train' instead of flying?

I don't go skiing, but in Feb half term, I took the kids to Oslo, cheap £1 flight from Ryanair, £20 coach from airport into Oslo, then we went Tobboganning. Spent all day there, then on coach back to the airport for a late flight back.
Tobbogan hire about £8, local train up and down the mountain only a couple of quid, so a really exhilerating and different day for around £30 each.
    Going again this Feb:j

Zakopane is actually more expensive than the Alpine resorts, due to the fact that so many people flock there.
    From Poland...with love.

    It is stunning there :)
we didn't go for a ski ing holiday ,we went for a daytrip as part of a longer Marbella holiday one February, cheap flights to Malaga
  • A few years ago a friend and I went to La Lioran in France. We drove but there are a number of airports within reach (though you'd need to hire a car). We stayed at this hotel which was very reasonable http://www.lessourcescantal.com/rooms.htm

Although the skiing is fairly small scale, it was lovely and not too crowded for half term. We had amazing snow and a lovely time. This would work out much cheaper than a package I think, as it is off the beaten track.
