Halifax 6.95% LOB Cheques & 2% Handling change

Options
Just received some cheques from Halifax for 6.95% LOB but it has a 2% handling fee. What I wanted to know was whether this 2% was capped at £50 or not.

Spoke to their CS and firstly they didnt know then when I asked if she could find out. She put me on hold for 5 mins and later came back and said that it was capped at £50. I'm not too convinced!!

Has anyone on here got these and can any of you clarify this. I'm looking to put £7000 on it and I can bear the £50 fee but not 2% of £7000, not beneficial.!!!!
Debt at highest (November 2005) = £35,856

Debt currently (August 2006) = £20,790
&More £1,530, Egg £6,800, HSBC £3,760, Egg Loan £8,700

Interim goal = £23,400 (Target: February 2006, Missed but acheived May 2006)
2nd Interim Goal = £15,000, Target October 2006
Debt Free Date = February 2008 BUT I'M GOING TO BE TRYING FOR SOONER!!! :p

  • I got the same letter and transfer cheques yesterday and I was considering using it. However, there is a big red stamp on my letter that says "No handling Fee to pay on this offer".

I've read and re-read the letter over and over and I cannot find any reference to a transfer fee and the red stamp would certainly lead a reasonable person to assume that there is no fee.

How strange that the 2 letters are the same, but one with and one without?

    QUOTE]

handling fee and Transfer fee have two different meanings
You will need to have a closer look at the T&C's otherwise you could be making a expensive mistake.
  • If I look much closer I will go blind. I have read every word!

The only reference to a fee is in the T&C on the back where it states:

    2. Total balance to be transferred including the fee must not exceed you current Halifax Credit Card limit.

There is no other mention at all  . Surely they can't charge a fee if they don't detail it in the offer anywhere!

I dont have no BIG RED STAMP on my letter. I can use these cheques to even pay Family and Friends as well apparently.

I called them but was not really happy with the answer they gave me.

I have a One credit card by the way if that makes any difference!!

    Okie dokes lads.

I have a Halifax card and the 0% is up in July.

Do these cheques have an expiry date on them?
Can they be paid into a bank account?

I'm going to pay off my Halifax card by the 0% expiry and then want to transfer a life of balance onto it.
