It sounds as if DFS are trying to avoid sorting out the problem.

Did you, by any chance, pay for this furniture with a credit card? If so, then if you cannot get any satisfaction from DFS, then get in touch with the credit card company and the problem will become theirs.

What type of technician/upholsterer would buy a suite from DFS, you would think they would have enough contacts to buy a bespoke suite at a good discount price.
My suite was handmade about 6 years ago and the leather is still like new! apart from a few cat and dog scratches which is our fault. It is made from analine hide and I think it's going to last forever! and I am sick of it already, but as my dear hubby say's "there's no new suites coming in this house 'til that one's worn out".
The moral of this tale is I should have gone to DFS and I would have been on my 3rd suite by now.

Yours will last a very very long time so I hope you like it. Hide leather dyed with aniline is the hardest wearing available.

DFS is good for the money; however on most cheaper leather suites - and light coloured suites - you will get some stretch. I have a white leather sofa from DFS. It's 5 years old now and still extremely comfortable. although the leather on the seats has stretched a lot.

    To the OP....
You have absolutely no chance whatsoever...........
    Not a chance....
We bought a suite from them over three years ago, £2400.
It was repaired three times in the first year and has continued to fall apart.
The seats are sagging, the leather is stretching and wearing into holes, there are huge staples sticking out under the arm and the the timber is rickety.

As I said, we are still in dispute over the sofa after three years. So good luck with your claim.
It's about time something was done about these fekin a$$holes...
I was thinking of taking the sofa down to them on a busy weekend when they have a sale, and tearing through it with a big a$$ chainsaw. (just to make a point of course.)

  • hey there,i have also bought a leather corner suite from dfs,we paid £2500 well were about to start paying in september.i had it delivered in december & some of the stitching was coming undone ,so they came & they fixed it but since then the leather has gone terrible.I have 3 children & a few pets(chihuahua's) but im scared to have my dogs anywhere near it just incase it marks.there are scratches on every seat, the leather has rubbed on the sides of the cushions & its also starting to sag.The man from DFS came today but apparantley all leather marks very easy allthough my last suite was 12 years old & i had it while all my children went through the toddler & up stage& there was never a mark on it.I told him under no circumstances am i paying for it & that i will dump it on their shop floor.DFS will fob you off every time.I told him i am going to trading standards but he said i need reports from an independant leather expert.so looks like ive got a fight on my hands then,i dont mind but aslong as they dont expect to have a payment come september!

This doesn't surprise me in the least. However you will have to pay the payments because they are with a finance company and not direct to DFS.

I would urge anyone to avoid DFS like the plague but if they must purchase from them do not use the DFS interest free finance but use a credit card which should give more protection in cases of poor quality like yours and mine.

contact trading standards and also fira also consider telling them your going to the small claims court it covers up to £5000 and only costs about £40 to put in a claim having been through all this myself this year i feel your pain please check previous posts by myself it will show you the way they work in terms of what happens from your first phone call to the end of the nightmare as far as different parts of the cow yep thats a common one most probably he told it was the belly of the cow lol i heard that one too but i spoke to a person outwith dfs and has his own shop and he told me that belly of the cow parts of leather should only be used for sides and back of sofas and not for areas that you would sit on, also some of dfs sofas (dunno how many or what ranges) are made from stucco leather ie they are all painted grey then what ever colour you want it in done after that ie not dyed from start the colour you want so if you start to see patches or scuff of grey through it its stucco, leather should not stretch to that degree depending on the type of sofa it is.
Fira are impartial and here is the number 01438 777700 hope this helps
