Morning all wonder if you can help.
I have a macbook with office installed. I have had a few messages about an update required (12.1) The update downloads and then I get the license agreement to agree to followed by destination selector (HD chosen) It then goes to Preparing Office 2008 SP1 update (12.1.0) The progress bar says Preparing Autoupdate Installer Script underneath. And there is stops. I have been at this point since last night (I left it to carry on overnight but no progress)
Office seems to be working ok but any thoughts on how I could get this update installed?
Thank you

It would help if you had bothered to mention which version of Mac OS X you are running, which Microsoft Office generation you are running and what version of that you are using currently.
The inference to be drawn from what you write is that you are running Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.
Which version though?
If you don't know, open one of its components (for example, "Word"), then go to the menu bar of your Mac and find the drop-down menu for it. This should be the second one from the left (next to the one on the extreme left with the Apple logo).
The first item on its drop-down menu should be "About xxxx" (i.e. "About Word" or "About Excel", etc.). Click on that.
A pane will open. This will tell you what version it is. Mine reads:
Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac
Version 12.1.5 (081119)
Latest Installed Update: 12.1.5
What does yours read?
Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac has to be updated incrementally. The 12.1.5 updater won't work on 12.1.2 (for example).
The successive updaters from the original edition of Office 2008 for Mac were called:
Office2008-1210UpdateEN.dmg
Office 2008 12.1.1 Update
Office 2008 12.1.2 Update
Office2008-1213UpdateEN.dmg
Office2008-1214UpdateEN.dmg
Office2008-1215UpdateEN.dmg
The likeliest cause of your problem is that the Auto Updater is trying to apply an update that isn't an incremental update of the actual version you are running. So, you may need to update it manually.
When you have determined which version you are running currently, apply, individually and manually, from the list above, the successive updates until you reach version 12.1.5 and are up to date.

A long tradition stretching back to the first version of Office, which was only released on the Mac.
It wasn't until version 3 that they released it for Windows.

Apologies, Nelski: I was trying to deal with an imbecile on the telephone at the same time as I posted that one...
Glad it worked for you, anyway.
Microsoft. :wall:  .

You need to understand that Apple users are accustomed to dealing with a company that is capable of producing an updater which can tackle any previous version of its program in one go.
We also look after our own; most of whom, like Nelski, can construct a coherent and literate sentence when posting a problem - and who have the self-dignity and common courtesy to do so.
(We'll get around to showing our irrepressible friend markymoo how to type a capital letter, one day - although I like to think he has a Microsoft keyboard with a defective Shift key.)

eh? wot you mean>?
btw...typing this on a microsoft keyboard
It took me a long time to add capital letters, not through lack of literacy (I've even been known to read a book or 2...some without (many) pictures!) but through laziness!Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
