EDF 12.11 kwh - Looking for alternative

Hi. I'm on a prepaid meter and just found out that were paying 12.11 pence per kwh. This is surely an over kill. I'm thinking of switching but not sure where to look for comparative prices as these comparison websites don't always have the consumers best interest at heart. I'm crawling through them as I write this but just thought I'll ask if there is an alternative.

The comparison sites don't have anyones interest at heart except for their own, but they so all provide an honest & accurate comparison service of the prices available and calculate the cost accordingly. As long as you input actual kWh usage figures, you should get an accurate output.
(Using cost whether monthly or annually as an input can result in estimation errors)

Note that it isn't just a case of comparing the unit cost as many companies also make a standing charge for PPMs, although not all. Obviously you'll expect a higher unit charge for those companies that don't ask for a separate standing charge. The comparison sites will take all this into consideration in calculating the prices of all the suppliers.

As Premier said, the Unit rates can only be half the story when it comes to comparing prices, you also have to take into account discounts etc too, some of which can be up to 15-20% so sometimes even if the unit rates with a supplier seem higher than your current ones the discounts can make them work out cheaper.

Use Kwh usage on a comparison site and you will get a far more accurate idea of a comparison, they dont just make the results up despite what people think.

Agreed, but one thing I have noticed with the switching sites is the default existing method of payment is NEVER monthly DD. A subtle method of making the savings seem like more than ordinarily would be the case? Of course, this is assuming the punter who is currently paying by DD doesn't notice and correct it. But still...

It was predominantly a general observation but, yes, I really should have gone to specsavers. ;)

But DD isnt really the default payment method (despite a lot of people paying this way) the sites will just go to default suppliers and default payment methods. If you move into a new property you dont automaticaly pay by DD it defaults back to quarterly billing.

If the OP is on a prepay meter then yes it is generally the unit rates as there arent usually any discounts but still the comparison sites should give you an idea of who would be cheaper.
