Samsung TV's!
Thanks for all the info to you all, and thanks for the links
I'm assuming Richer Sounds is a real shop too rather than online!
edit: yes it is! and about a 5 minute walk from my work!!
I got my Panasonic recorder from Richer sounds, great service & the guys in there know what they are talking about.
I also took out an extended guarantee but never needed to use it, so I got a full refund of the guarantee cost.

Thanks Leopard. Might as well go for the 250Gb
Rather have too much than too little space !
Your help and kindness is much appreciated

I would also recommend the Sony unit. I have the 160Gb version and love it. I got mine staff sales so can't vouch for any stores.0

No idea about multi-regionality!!

I'd also recommend either the Sony per Leopard above, or the Panasonic, both great machines. Both get rave reviews and a loyal following of users.
I'm still waiting for one to arrive with a dual digital tuner, like the Humax boxes...0 -
Just thought you would like an update!
We got the Sony RDR HXD 995 from Richer Sounds, they were selling it in store for £239, but price matched their web price for £219. They reserved it, helped us with the cable and even carried it out to the car. The customer service was excellent and we shall definitely be visiting them again, as they are so reasonably priced and friendly!
Just got to set the flippin' thing up now!!
Thanks for all the advice again

One final word of advice: when recording to HDD, or burning to DVD, don't simply accept the default mode offered for picture quality. Select, manually, the highest level of picture quality that available space on the HDD or DVD permits.
There's a table that shows what's possible on about Page 155 of the manual.
I always download and archive copies of manuals for the devices I buy from the websites of the manufacturers and I keep them stored on my computer(s). It makes them much easier to search (using the computer's FIND function) than does the Index in most manuals!
The manual for the 995 is here.
If I may say so, I think you have acted with great wisdom in researching and going about the purchase of this device. Enjoy!
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.
