3 bed detached house - condensing boiler - 7 radiators

With the heating used sparingly (5hrs a day, extra hour when very cold), and the thermostat on 20c. I used 220 imperial gas units in 92 days. Ive tried very hard this winter to cut down,to the extent of having a quilt downstairs for the evening.

So at the moment we're paying enough for a three bedroom house for 6 people that's very warm.

If your boiler is 'not operating on a thermostatic method' then you, your house, and your boiler would no longer be here. And neither would several of your neighbours.

Well, I said warm rather than very warm. And I have tried to turn the heating off/down more this year. We also have a brand new, energy efficient combi boiler and TRVs on all but one radiator.

Its not if you think its cold.

If you and your supplier are happy the meter is fine, then it is you who are using the gas. I new what was coming this year so I adjusted my usage accordingly. Huge prices rises and a very cold winter, means large bills.

Ive actually reduced the amount of gas Ive used despite the cold winter, purely down to me being profligate in the past. So being tight has seen my winter usage drop by 30%, although price rises have swallowed that up.

I would read your meter daily/weekly then there will be no more shocks.

Thanks so far for all info - any more nov-feb quarter info particularly from 2 bed flat people would be appreciated.

Honestly we've had way too much to deal with this last year to be paying particular attention to gas, but in the past it's never been so astronomical that we've felt cause to question it

I will be moniotoring for the next few weeks to see what happens - does any one know of a website where you can find out average daily usage?

I can give 5th Nov (estimated) to 17th Feb (actual) for a 2 bed mid-terrace house?

    319 metric units.

Average daily use for gas is a bit difficult. Whereas, with electricity (not heating), your use varies with the appliances you use, with heating it's the construction of the building too.

Average gas use will vary according to outside temp, insulation, personal preference etc. Our house is very similar to next door but they pay more for gas than we do. Partly because they have an old back boiler and we have a new condensing one and partly because they heat their house more than we do. The people on the end of the terrace pay even more, possibly because they have more outside walls.

We're using a little less than two imperial units a day at the moment.

With respect, that means nothing. Your 5th Nov reading could have been 100 units higher or lower than estimated!
