There should be a setting for disabling wireless somewhere in the config screen http://192.168.1.1, which I assume you can get to using firefox? If you have a model with detachable aerials, then that is an easier alternative.
Never dial a connection on the connections screen, and either remove all the ticks from the lan settings screen, or try "automatically detect settings"Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Sorry to keep asking but I am an absolute beginner when it comes to this wireless thingy. Now that I have got the USB adaptor for my laptop, can anyone provide simple steps to establish the network with Linksys WAG354G. Any help would be appreciated.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

XP? plug it in, install the drivers, if all done you should get a window coming up, recognising your routers ssid.
You really need to make sure it is secure, once you get it working. This means setting up WPA encryption. But this may be a step too far at the moment.. Just trying plugging it in, install the drivers, and tell us what happens on the PC..
These are some instructions on how to secure it on a netgear routers. The principles are the same on a Linksys.

This is a real pain. I have finally got the Linksys USB adaptor to detect the linksys router as an access point but it still can't detect the internet connection. I no longer know what to do. Really exhausting.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renewEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks albertross for all your advice. It is working now (well hardly). Strange that I need to stick the USB adaptor very close to the router to be able to get a signal. That doesn't seem right as surely the whole idea of a wireless connection is to be able to get away from the modem itself. I don't know but I am wondering whether the router could be faulty.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

it could be interference, there are some tips towards the end of this thread about a Linksys, but the upshot was that the original poster swapped it for a Netgear dg834G which worked straight away..
