Half Price Cigarrettes at Waitrose

I have just been into my Waitrose store in Newmarket and they have reduced by almost half price some of their cigarettes due to discontinuation of stock.

ie: 20 Lambert and Butler Smooth - was £5.17...Now £2.65

Other brand also reduced but I can't remember the names.

Please note that I am not condoning nor encouraging smoking and do not want this posting to result in a discussion. I'm sure there is another forum board where this can be discussed!

thats amazing considering the mark up on cigarettes are only approx 5 %

Maybe this is a ploy to attract a new type of shopper that they've never had before. :rotfl:

are they closing down our local co-op started to do this then stated the store would close for good in 2 weeks

I always sort of got the impression that promotions like this were illegal, in line with the ban on advertising. I'm sure this is one of those things that I have made up and then convinced myself was true.

Still, quite a bargain, not that I would have partaken (quit Tuesday!)

Wish i lived in Newmarket - our local waitrose doesnt have any half price
