  • Well the price is quite high at over £10 but I suppose it depends on what you paid for them and whether you could replace the dividend income if this is important to you.
I don't know the cheapest place to sell but your bank will almost certainly offer you some share dealing service.
  • The mortgage banking sector has been done well recently, along with the rest of the market. The stabilisation of house prices has helped sentiment. Mortgage lending has continued to rise to allay previous fears.

HBoS is both a mortgage bank (Halifax) and a proper bank (Bank of Scotland).

The principle reason, IMHO, for the HBOS and recent market rises is that it is very difficult to find inflation protected income (or any sort of income) - and a yield of over 3% is very useful, especially as dividend income is likely to increase, so protecting against inflation.

Did you get the shares for free, ssr?
  • I have just sold mine. The price was right for me as I have some large unforseen bills to pay (which I wont go into ). I actually used a company called Hoodless Brennan HERE
Which I found to be quite easy to use. You do allthough have to send your paper certificate to them via registered post which takes a few days to clear. Hope this helps. ;)
  • I think you might be able to sell through Capita, who I believe are the registrars for HBOS?

I think they charge around £15 which is cheap for paper shares. It's always worth checking with the registrar to see if you can offload shares cheaply.

FYI here are the major registrars for UK companies, all have their own sharedealing service which does not require you to register or have to open a sharedealing account.
