Should I add mum to life assurance policy as joint tenant?

I am about to remortgage as my fixed rate ends soon. I took out critical and life assurance to cover me but not my mother who is the joint tenant. She is retired and doesn't pay the mortgage. I have critical and life assurance cover so that if anything happens to me the mortgage will be paid. She is thinking about getting life assurance for herself (she is in her sixties) but I don't think she needs it. If she died before me, then the mortgage would be paid but I'm in a position to pay it anyway and I'd rather she kept her money. Am I right about this?

    I think so.

Although it would be great for her to have life and critical illness cover as well, the premiums are likely to be very expensive for her.
You can pay it without her, but she can't pay it without you... so as you rightfully say, you are the one who needs to be covered
